How can you say that though? I thought that when given a chance last year he showed some promise.Originally posted by Rudo View PostHe doesn't have what it takes to succeed at Liverpool. Sell!!
Clearly he has some competition for his place, but that can only be a good thing.Forwards.......

It seems little bit harsh to write him off so quickly.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostI'm not sure we do. Not in english football, at least.
He hasn't played enough by any standard to have an opinion on him one way or another.
He has to be given an opportunity to start and play regularly first but I doubt Roy will be using him unless we have bad streak of injuries.
Imo it's shame.. really.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

Absolutely. He finished the season with like 4 games in a row and he was very decent.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostHow can you say that though? I thought that when given a chance last year he showed some promise.

I think the bigger problem is that neither his teammates nor Roy believe much in him and for that to change he needs to get more playing time but I cannot see it unless we have long term injuries..Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

That's essentially the problem though, he's never fit enough to play enough.Originally posted by Mostar View PostIt seems little bit harsh to write him off so quickly.

I would not say that was his only problem.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostThat's essentially the problem though, he's never fit enough to play enough.
He was fit to play on many occasions last year but Rafa chickened out and did not want to play him as we were doing so poorly and he did not want to improvise or experiment with his big money signing...
In reality, if you look he is one of few players we have that have football skills, creativity and a vision to be a difference maker.
I realize it is tough for him to break in with JC and SG playing in his preferred position but he can deliver if he is given a chance.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

My point though, is that none of this has been proven in english football, where time on the ball is minimal and the physical side of things far greater.Originally posted by Mostar View PostI would not say that was his only problem.

It is difficult to show off your skills if you don't play though.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostMy point though, is that none of this has been proven in english football, where time on the ball is minimal and the physical side of things far greater.
This guy proved himself at every level for his natiaonal team and Serie A, which until few years back, was arguably one of the best leagues.
I think he can adjust to physical demands of PL but he needs to start as right now he has no confidence in himself whatsoever.
Another problem he has is that he knows that he needs to impress instantly (just like last year) as he will not get many opportunities and for that reason I am afraid that he will more likely fail than succeed.
If Roy would trust him and play him week in and week out I I think he'd get confidence back and be the player we all expected him to be (you would change your opinion of him).Last edited by Mostar; 16-08-10, 05:42 PM.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

I just don't see it mate. I dont doubt his ability, it's whether he has what it takes to succeed in a league as competitive and demanding as the Premiership is the question and i'd have to say the answer is no.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostHow can you say that though? I base this on the fact, he doesn't look like a proper midfield player to me -
up and down the pitch, putting his foot in, passing it, generally being involved in the play...i don't think he has enough about him to do that.
I'd love to be proved wrong but if a Club offered £10 million which would go towards us buying a Left Back and Striker then i'd be all for it.

I think we did in the second half. In the first they were much more assured in possession and we didn't really get into the game at all for the first half hour. Arsenal however did flatter to deceive and had no real cutting edge, I never thought we looked consistently worried at the back. In the second half they were really poor considering they were playing against 10 men, toothless with aimless sideways passing, wheras we were very gutsy and with a match-fit Torres would probably have scored a second. In that half at least we really did outplay them in terms of desire and tactics.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostWe outplayed Arsenal?
Dunno what game you were watching mate.I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

It is interesting that you said he is not cut for PL especially as we've seen so much of him.. Alberto started 9 PL games (If I'm not mistaken 4 of those came at the end of the season when we lost any chance to qualify for CL spot) playing no more than 60-65 minute in each with 70% healthy ankle.
If you gonna rate him do so after he has a steady streak of games.
Until then it is unfair to prejudge him and/or have a preconcieved notion about his skills.
Also to accept £10M for a player that we bought just a year ago for twice that much is a silly statement to say at least..Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

On loan FFS. Either keep him or sell him.
Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has confirmed that he is considering the possibility of sending Alberto Aquilani out on loan in an effort to help him regain first-team football.
The Italian midfielder has endured an injury-stricken campaign last year after joining the Merseyside club last summer and has not enjoyed a regular run in the team.
Speaking after Liverpool's 1-0 win against Trabzonspor in the Europa League Hodgson confirmed: "At the moment we are considering loaning him to an Italian club.
"I didn't want to use him tonight in case the loan goes through because for Aquilani it's very important this year that he plays regular football, every week as the number one man on the team sheet.
"I can't promise him that here so if a loan move to Italy could help him in that respect it might be good for all parties. It would certainly be what he needs, it would certainly protect the value of the player and when he does return to Liverpool no doubt we will see the Aquilani that we signed before he came here injured last year."
The former Roma man has previously been linked with a move to Napoli this summer, something his agent Franco Zavaglia denieder Roma man has previously been linked with a move to Napoli this summer, something his agent Franco Zavaglia denied
