Dirk Kuyt’s agent claims his client is pondering a reunion with Rafael Benitez at Inter Milan.
New Inter boss Benitez is an admirer of the hard-working Holland international and reports suggest he is lining up a bid to bring Kuyt to the San Siro.
The player’s agent Rob Jansen told Voetbal International today: “Yes, there is real interest from Inter, but Dirk has not yet decided if he wants to leave Liverpool.
“This is also a complicated transfer. Dirk Kuyt is a key player for Liverpool, he has an ongoing contract and was recently in the World Cup final.
“He may move to Inter or just stay at Liverpool. There is also the possibility that a player from Inter could be included in the deal with Dirk Kuyt.”
Kuyt was rested for Liverpool’s Europa League play-off clash with Trabzonspor last night.
The 30-year-old was brought to Liverpool by Benitez in 2006 from Feyenoord after starting his career with FC Utrecht.
Liverpool FC have insisted Dirk Kuyt is not for sale
Aug 21 2010 by Dominic King, Liverpool Echo
LIVERPOOL have moved to end all speculation about Dirk Kuyt’s future by firmly insisting he is not for sale.
The Holland international has been linked with a move to Inter Milan and former Reds boss Rafa Benitez, of course, is a huge admirer of Kuyt.
Rob Jansen, Kuyt’s agent, revealed in a Dutch newspaper yesterday morning that his client had an opportunity to move to the San Siro.
However, Liverpool do not want to lose one of their most valuable squad members and Roy Hodgson has spoken to Inter owner Massimo Moratti on the subject.
Kuyt only signed a new long-term deal last summer and has never given any inclination that he wants to seek a new challenge.
Hodgson sees Kuyt as playing a crucial role this season and has gone on record as simply saying the former Feyenoord man is “not for sale”.
Having been rested for Thursday night’s 1-0 win over Trabzonspor, Kuyt will return to the squad for Monday’s showdown with Manchester City.
With an extra 24 hours to recuperate, Hodgson – who is tracking PSV Eindhoven’s left-back Carlos Salcido and striker Ola Toivonen – believes Liverpool will be in fine shape for the clash at the City of Manchester Stadium.
“On Thursday night, during the Europa League game against Trabzonspor, the board of Liverpool informed me officially that they have received a fax from Inter,” said Kuyt. “You can call this a luxury situation for me.”
Kuyt cost Liverpool £12million when Benitez signed him from Feyenoord four years ago.
Inter’s interest in the 30-year-old contradicts Roy Hodgson’s claim that he had been given assurances from club president Massimo Moratti that he would not be bidding for any Liverpool players.
Moratti said last night: “Mascherano? We won’t make a move for him. But Kuyt? We will have to wait and see.”
