Which is my point basically, the squad is ****, it doesn't matter which formation we put out, the players are the same. Lucas won't turn into Kaka if we put him next to another defensive midfielder, he'll just appear to be less **** because we won't notice him as much. The same for Kuyt and Jovanovic: 4-4-2, 4-3-3, it doesn't matter, they still don't have any ability to create something dangerous out wide.

Surely the two are closely related. We don't have wingers, so dont play 442. And the 2 shouldn't be the same type of player. Its not rocket surgeryOriginally posted by Charly View PostUndone by a couple of Argies...?
I dont think it was as terrible as you guys are making out.
We just played a very good side, and had a few moments of poor concentration. I have seen us win games like the one we have just seen. I dont think the formation was an issue either. The personnel is the probelm.
Jovanavic is not a winger. I am not sure is Roy thinks he is obliged to play him. Should have taken our corners, though. Lucas and Ngog are out of their depth at this level. We need 11 classy players to challenge the best. Ans some real width. The worry for me is, when we did get crosses in, we rarely had anyone in the box.
I thought now would be a good time to play City, before they gelled, but the chasm in class across the pitch was too much. Their side was more physical too.
I thing if we had Mascherano in there, we may have had a chance. Ah well. Its a long season. I am not going to get depresed on the second match day, or Ill end up suicidal come June.

Well we probably agree really, and I really think having Lucas on his own - knowing Gerrard will go forward is asking for trouble. Will be interesting to see the formation the next time we play a top 4 team away.

Therein lies the problem - our squad isn't good enough, if we're behind in a game we've no plan B and don't have 2 or 3 players that can come off the bench and turn it around for us.Originally posted by JohnDoe View PostWhich is my point basically, the squad is ****, it doesn't matter which formation we put out, the players are same players. No matter who the manager is, we're going nowhere with this squad of players, it's bad times.

Maxi is a winger, Babel is arguably better as a winger than Jovanovic surely? We had the players to play either formation, but 442 against Citeh was a serious error. We havent got a great squad but at least you play players to fit the system don't you?Originally posted by JohnDoe View PostWhich is my point basically, the squad is ****, it doesn't matter which formation we put out, the players are the same. Are you not capable of expressing an opinion with a bit of respect though mate? You're not an ignorant bloke, you're easily educated enough to know how to state your opinion and criticise people without abusive terminology. Someone posted in an abusive tone to you, and you offered him outOriginally posted by Frenchie View Postits my opinion, dont like it fair enough
So obviously you realise it's disrespectful, and yet it's ok for you to do it to our manager.
I dont know why you do it, but you really do make a rod for your own back sometimes.

Well we won't get anywhere near the top 4, that's for sure.Originally posted by Marsh View Postso are we hoping for 6th now?
United, Chelsea, Arsenal, City and Spurs have better squads than us.
We've got a starting 11 that COULD rival them but we all know it's not just about 11 players is it.

Pretty fair all in all. I, like everyone else was annoyed Roy didn't change anything, but looking at the bench, there was nothing there that could have helped us regain control in midfield.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostIts more a case that so many people didn't want him, they were just waiting for a chance like tonight to slag him.
I like Roy but if we're getting spanked week in week out in 6 months time I'll probably be joining the slagging but until at least that time I see little reason.
rafa had 5 seasons and left us in this mess with a load of **** players that can only play in a 451 formation by all accounts. well done that man.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

When you looked at Citys bench it really brought home home the game has moved on. Adebayor -Wright Phillips- Silva - Viera etc. They would all have made our first XI.Originally posted by Rudo View PostTherein lies the problem - our squad isn't good enough, if we're behind in a game we've no plan B and don't have 2 or 3 players that can come off the bench and turn it around for us.

We should all support our own manager, no doubt, no argument there
