Mate Valencia didn't need to sign any players they had a ridiculous team including: Cañizares, Carboni,Ayala, Baraja, David Albelda, Vicente,Aimar,Gonzalez, world class players at the time all there when Rafa arrived built by Hector Cuper. The only big player sold in Rafa's time was Mendiata as far as i can remmember. Sure they were runners up 2 consecutive years before Rafa arrived, what Rafa gave him was direction to his credit but the tools were more than there for him, any manager coming in job would be made a dream with a team like that, same as the Inter team Rafa just walked into.

Haha absurd? So Rafa comes into a world class squad, that have came runners up in the biggest club competition in the world 2 seasons consequtively before he arrived, the nearly men turned into winners, he gave them direction, he shored up their defence and along with the talent he had at his disposal they went from a great team to a superb team.

So yes, he gave them the direction they needed, kinda absurd you think its absurd when it happened

You said the team was built by Cuper (which implies he bought them), it wasn't, it was trained by Cuper. The team was built by the director of football.
