Some feature on F365, with a timely reminder:

"Cue a reminder of how Martin Broughton, the Liverpool chairman, justified Hodgson's appointment in mid-July: "He wanted to focus on how he could get more out of the existing players. He was really focused on, 'I believe, and I've got a track record that demonstrates it, that I can take the existing players, get much better performances out of them and buy constructively to build for a better future.'"
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Quite often I went and watched his sides steamroller the opposition by pressing them high up the pitch and almost boring them into submission*

The only LFC side that consistantly played attacking / beautiful football was Kenny's side in 1987-1989

      * for the record I think Paisley is the best manager we have had bar none but there is a lot of nostalgia in the talk of our football in days gone by
Your missing the point mate, the debate was whether Rafa played beautiful football or not, nothing about successful football or what it kind of football it takes to be win things.

From my our post above i take it you agree with me that Rafa's team are not noted for playing "beautiful football". I feel the fact the you and Arn are rank Rafa supporters leads me to believe anything you say in regards Rafa is slightly unbalanced, not offense intended mate.

can't see him standing down nor can i see the board sacking him, it'll make an already incompetent and hated boardroom look even more stupid than they already have been.

          No offence taken

No I dont believe he played beautiful football apart from the occasions I mentioned in my later post

Did he intend for us to play beautiful football I dont honestly know

One thing is for certain the standard was far better than we have had under Hodgson

To suggest that the current performances have echoed anything under Rafa's regime are "slightly unbalanced" as you have put it

I think we can all bow to your expertise in that department.
            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

But it very rarely materialised again, maybe on the odd occasion (particularly in the year we came 2nd)

Dont know why Rafa actually never re-produced maybe it was down to lack of funds, I dont know

Rafa to me produced a functional side that was superb positionally and tactically where he fell down was he probably should have let them off the leash more

His basic starting tactics were spot on, keep things tight, press the opposition high up the pitch, controlling the game etc...

Where he fell down was converting his players use of the ball in an attacking sense. If he could have replicated the movement and passing fromsome of his Valencia days (and that West Brom game I mentioned earlier) then his reign would have been so much different
I think he was on the way to do that but it took longer time because he simply didn't had the money to make it quicker. Aquilani would have been our Aimar and you only need to look at the way he set up our youth team to play to see that the Valencia or Barcelona way is the way he wanted to go.

He would have needed to be backed just a couple of more season to achieve that goal IMO. He was very close to do that.

from now on I will skip talking about our finances. That is a promise and will save myself from looking like a

I'm not convinced Aquilani was that player

Yes I know hes doing well in Italy now but I'm not covinced hes that sort of player over here

I really thought he'd have had the sack by now.

Nobody at Anfield is going to sack him - no money to pay him off and would be an admittance of getting things wrong!

We'd get parachute payments for four seasons though.

That'll be Roy's "ending the season on a high" speech following relegation
