The most emphatic indictment of his (already too-long) tenure is that we are where we deserve to be, based on our performances.

Dunno if you saw it in one of the other threads, but if we'd have lost four of our first eight games (say, losing games v City, United, Arsenal and Everton) and won the other four (games v Blackpool, Sunderland, West Brom and Birmingham) we'd be in the top 6.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostThe most emphatic indictment of his (already too-long) tenure is that we are where we deserve to be, based on our performances.
And we're 19th.

Ok, so feelings were obviously running high this afternoon, so some of the unnecessary insults that were being thrown about in this thread are perhaps a little more understandable, but it really doesn't help anything for us to be casting about recriminations re. something that is now dead and gone, especially ones that are not entirely accurate. Some fans wanted him out, some were pretty ambivalent, and some wanted him to stay, but all of them had reasonable grounds at the time for their positions. In no way though was he hounded out by our fans, no way.
Although I saw more positives in Rafa than you did, I think you're totally right Scully; just because Roy is awful that does not mean there were not problems under Rafa. The two things are really not connected. Its like saying the tories are ****, so that means new labour were great. We were underperforming under Rafa, now we're not performing at all, so yes, we probably would have been a bit better off if he had stayed, but he didn't, and we really need to start looking forwards rather than backwards.Originally posted by scully View PostI hold fast to my view that Rafa had to go. His defensive, over-complicated tactics, his constantly playing out-of-form or plain untalented players while resting those who could change games, his taking off anyone who dared to score a goal let alone threaten to score a hat trick etc, drove me absolutely insane last year. Roy is terrible and the moment he is out of our club I will finally feel the cloud lift, but Roy Is Awful = Rafa Is The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread is total kneejerkery.I could not dig, I dared not rob:

You dont seriously think H&G sacked him because they thought they were doing what the fans wanted though, do you?
No I dont. But Im not sure how much they had to do with it either. I do think that the doubts and criticisms of some fans gave Purslow either the idea or the media cover to do it though.
But then that goes back to my suspicion of Purslow generally, which I know everyone doesnt agree with.

Rafa promised 4th, delivered 7th once this happened there was a clear excuse from the board to remove him - they took it with both hands, IMO based on Thicks interview I think H&G ordered the shove and Purslow in his rols of MD pulled the trigger.Originally posted by Galb View PostNo I dont. This was done though to remove a "problem" from the club and not just based on where we finished last season.

Blaiming Benitez is a cunts trick and the media reaction over this has been laughable at bestOriginally posted by Craig_H View Post
What pisses me off more, is this **** about 'inherited the benitez mess' or 'just carrying on benitez's work'
Bull****. Rafa's failure of 7th is a pipedream now, thanks to roy.
I even heard his comments the other week, saying how after 7 games we were in the bottom 3 and whilst it's obviously not where we want to be, Roy 'knows' that Liverpool FC wont be in the bottom three after 38 games.
Oh jolly goody good-oh ****ety cuntery cunt Roy. Brilliant. Thanks for that.
Even if you agree with the line that Rafa bought crap players etc.... Rafa managed to finish 7th with those players (which says a lot about Roy)
After 8 games last season our form was as follows:-
P W D L F A Pts
8 5 0 3 23 9 15
We would be 3rd in the league with that points total todayBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Highlights the fact that the PL is going downhill in terms of quality but for us to have fallen the furthest is almost criminal!Originally posted by Lecter View PostBlaiming Benitez is a cunts trick and the media reaction over this has been laughable at best

Rafa had a poor last season, partly from making a rod for his own back and finishing 2nd the season before but this utter shambolic hoof ball we're playing is worse than Sunday league pub football - unfortunatly the press will continue to go on about poor Roy having a poor squad to pick from the previous managers tenure and deserves time (he doesn't, should go today!)

I was pissed off that we missed out on fourth place before this season but now I'm very very happy that we did that. It saved the club big time. So in a way last season was Rafa's best season if you look at it long term and what is best for the club.
G&H would probably still own the club if we had finished in the top four.
Sometimes a seventh placed finish is better than finishing second.Stop the cyberhate

from now on I will skip talking about our finances. That is a promise and will save myself from looking like a

Hodgson isn't the man for the job that's plain to see, but for all you blind Rafa fans, open your eyes. I've never been so bored in all my years of watching Liverpool than i was watching the crap boring negative football we played under him.
Do any of you honestly believe we were going to win the league under him. We came close when we overachieved but werent good enough. I remember saying to a friend, i couldn't believe we were top of the league at Christmas because we were woeful. Granted, the second half of the season was a lot better and we played attacking football, but what happened the following season, his last ? we went back to boring negative football.
The sooner you take off the red tinted glasses the better. The last time we had an attacking side was under Evans. Houllier, Benitez and now Hodgson were\are all boring negative managers of ours. I really can't understand they way most of you view him. It's like he's some sort of god
If it wasn't for the fiasco off the pitch with the yanks a lot of you would have seen the bigger picture, the ****e football and mediocre signings. I wanted Benitez out because i was sick and tired paying good money to watch ****e football and i have no regrets that he's no longer our manager

Say what you want about his style of football, but I was pretty happy when we were beating some of Europe's top teams home and away in the Champions League, we had an excellent record recently against the Mancs (including a 4-1 win in their own back yard), and could beat Chelsea at home (and did so away on one occasion), and hadn't lost a derby game since 2006.
We had a midfield of Alonso and Mascherano (now playing for two of Europe's other elite teams).
We had Torres and Gerrard ripping teams apart.
Rafa wasn't perfect, but he came the closest to winning the league of any recent Liverpool manager, and had he been backed properly over the last two seasons he may well have completed the task at hand.
Compare that to now. You say red-tinted glasses, I say the grass isn't always greener.
But then I'm just blind eh.
