Liverpool FC manager Roy Hodgson disappointed by unhelpful 'Dalglish' chants

Under-fire Roy Hodgson admits that he was disappointed with chants by Liverpool fans for former manager Kenny Dalglish during today's defeat to Stoke City.

Travelling supporters at the Britannia Stadium aired their displeasure about the 2-0 reversal by chanting the legendary Scot's name following Kenwyne Jones' stoppage time goal and again at the final whistle as Hodgson trudged down the tunnel.

And whilst the Kop boss insisted he did not hear the chants as he left the pitch, he conceded that any singing for Dalglish, arguably the club's greatest player, does little to help Liverpool's bid for a revival after a tart to the season considered unprecedented in Anfield's recent history.

He said: "That seems to be part of the life as Liverpool football manager.

"We're trying do the best job we can in the circumstances but I don't think that that singing helps.

"But I didn't hear it and I am sure there are lots of fans who sympathise with us and what we are trying to do."

Hodgson also expressed his disappointment at Liverpool's failure to prevent the defeat to the Potters on the back of an unbeaten run and admitted that the killer instincts of Fernando Torres were sorely missed after the injury he sustained early in the second half.

He added: "I'm obviously sad that a good run's come to an end. It was always going to be a tough task because it's a battle and I always knew we'd be hard pushed to win that battle but I thought we did okay in the first half.

"We dealt with the pressure, in particular the throw ins and the long balls forward. But when they scored from one of the long throws, of course then it was always going to be an uphill battle. I thought the players stuck at it to the end. They did the best they could.

"I think we missed Fernando Torres in the second half after the kick he took. He obviously didn't want to come off, and I didn't want to take him off. You don't want to take your goal scorer off when you need a goal, but I don't think he was firing on all cylinders.

"But I can only congratulate Stoke on their victory. They have a very difficult style of play and we did our best to deal with it, but they got the goal which was required. The second goal was really a result of me throwing caution to the wind by bringing a couple of forwards on."

LFC's best players ARE unhappy with tactics, etc. Most of the journeymen not too bothered I'd imagine. Feel at home with Roy.

Heard rumblings of that before. The English players being on the side of Roy and others like Torres and Reina being against him. Seems to be bull****, though cant say for sure. Again everything just seems to be up in the air! It's not healthy.

That's whipped up by the media. If and when he has won trophies its been in the 70s with Halmstad and with other scandanavian clubs. IF he had such a great c.v why and how do you go from Inter to a struggling Blackburn side then Grasshopper and Copenhagen? his c.v aint that great, just becouse you have worked abroad many times does not mean your c.v is great. and this http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/foo...=feeds-newsxml hate the rag mind but put Roy Hodgson into google and thats what you get i worry, i worry about January transfer window too, with him hav'n more money to spend.

Liverpool FC: Roy Hodgson Has Only One Choice Left: Resign Or Get Sacked

I am not saying this because I like to go with the flow.

I am saying this because I am truly convinced that Liverpool FC needs a dramatic change.

Roy Hodgson needs to leave - voluntarily or through the sack. NOW.

A third into the season, Liverpool has only earned 16 points from 13 matches, winning a paltry 4 games. The goal difference has been disastrous, the defense porous. Pepe Reina, who once lead the English Premier League in clean sheets, can count this year's clean sheets on his right hand.

But the offense has looked stagnant as well. Aside from Gerrard, Torres, and the European specialty N'gog, nobody else has made any impact on the season consistently.

I will be the first to admit that my criticism of Rafa Benitez during his reign was harsh. I think I speak for millions of Liverpool fans around the world when I rue the platitudes spit by the media about Rafa's zonal marking, his lone striker formation, and his tendency to forcefully protect his players, even if it means staining his personal record. But I never had any doubts about Rafa's devotion to the club, to the fans, to the cause. Even though I often disagreed with his substitutions, his tactics, and his signings, I could not doubt his belief in moving Liverpool forward, however stubborn his belief may have been.

With Roy Hodgson, on the other hand, I see and feel nothing. The following is just a sampling of that emptiness.

1 Roy constantly poses a confused look on the sidelines, oftentimes scratching his head, screaming in frustration, or dejectedly looking on. Does he expect to inspire confidence and belief by acting being so inanimate? He does not even understand what to do with this team. He has no plan B, should Liverpool fall behind. In all but 2 Premier League games this year, Liverpool has failed to score in the first half. That is hardly the recipe for success.

Roy also has this team playing deep in their own half. Fernando Torres often is behind the midfield line. With so many people devoted to defending, I wonder how he expects us to score a winning goal.

Roy reprehensibly attacked his predecessor for the bad team he has right now. He blamed the previous manager for his terrible start. Well, Roy, this same team, plus Arbeloa, Alonso, and Mascherano (and minus Meireles, Konchesky, Poulsen) had placed second just two years ago.

Roy has criticized the fans for their actions. Well, Roy, if you want the fans to stop singing Rafa's or Kenny's name, perhaps you should manage to win, not for draws. Perhaps you should listen to the fan's chants for "attack, attack, attack" rather than rigidly scratch your chin or nose in your winter jacket in quiet displeasure. Perhaps you should learn from Shankly that the fans, the manager, and the players are a Holy Trinity - without any part, the team cannot function successfully.

A confused Hodgson. What's new? But the most egregious and repulsive of Roy's actions as Liverpool manager has been his unwillingness to admit his mistakes. This, for any human being, is unacceptable. He labeled the horrendous 2-0 display against Everton as the "best performance of the season." He considers the loss to Blackpool and Manchester United "unlucky." He never admits to his own tactical faults.

But when it comes to the players, he is ruthless.

Following the shocking Carling Cup exit to League Two side Northampton, Roy Hodgson fully blamed his players for the result, never once questioning his own decision to leave out all regular starters from both the bench and starting lineup.

After 3 months of dismal performance after dismal performance, I have had enough.

I know I don't speak for just myself, but for many Liverpool fans around the world.

Liverpool fans are widely considered to be the most gracious and supportive in the world, especially to their players and manager, but Roy has completely "lost the plot".

He has transgressed just about everything Liverpool holds dear, from criticizing the fans to criticizing the players, from terrible tactics and man management to ridiculously dishonest post-match statements. He continues to attack those who cannot defend themselves like Rafa Benitez, while never, ever checking his own methods.

Roy has one choice, as spelled by all who love Liverpool. Jaime Kanwar can stay out of this.

                              Resign, or get sacked.

                              NOW.
