    It's Dan Perkins versus Est!
    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Maybe LDP can engage 'Grabbo' to represent him.

I guess Roy and Rafa bashing are intimitely connected. Those who used to bash rafa are now being shown up as clueless cunts given the performances that Roy has managed to get out of roughly the same team.

The argument that Rafa left an inferior squad is complete bollox. He was able to get this squad fighting for 4th spot last year, Roy's managed to get it fighting for PL survival.

Stay on topic folks. Roy is the ****ing problem.

Nothing really. Former Albanian Stalinist leader, Enver Hoxha (pronounced Hodger). Dunno why but it seems more disrespectful - taking the piss without stooping to personal abuse.

Although given the way he slags off the players and sullies the club with his daft pronouncements, it's hard to resist calling him rude words.

I picked the team which I felt was right for the game and I have no regrets about that. In the first half Burnley were better than us but in the second half we were better. The bad thing is we conceded a poor goal and it was then always going to be difficult for us to score on a bad pitch against a team that was fighting for everything.

Aqua is an attacking midfielder Alonso was not, two completely different players, surely people seen him getting pushed off the ball and trying to tackle its just wasn't his game, there is no way he could cut it in the CM in the premier league and Rafa knew this.

Aqua got babied into the team it was a cotton wool job the whole season so frustrating. In Rafa's own words wouldn't play him at likes of Blackburn as it might be too physical for him, thats an actual quote from Rafa himself!!! I'm mean seriously, we all knew his injury history, we know that the premier league is the most physically demanding league, its the fastest tempo and most unforgiving, so little time and space especially in the middle of the park which can be a battle ground, Rafa was terrified to play him there incase he got injured and then everyone would say "Well you did buy an injury prone player" , so Aqua barely featured fits and starts and we sacrificed any sort of creativity in the middle of the park for the whole season, which cost us.

IMO a completely baffling signing. rafa got caught up in the Alonso saga and we ran out of time to get an adequate replacement, options dwindled so we were left with the injured Aquilani.
Dan, I think most people would agree with you that Rafa's transfer record over the past couple of years was poor. I think what most of us feel is that there were mitigating circumstances. For example, it was revealed the other day that Rafa thought he was getting Aquilani AND Jovetic as replacements for Alonso. This was a common scenario...

Regarding your point on signing Evra, Vidic et al. By all account we tried! Unfortunately for us, Utd had a bigger pull than we did at the time. There has been a lot of speculation over the players we've *nearly* signed. Berbatov when he was Leverkusen. Alves. Simao. We were after Villa years before he became the player he is today. This suggests to me that Rafa was good at spotting players but wasn't given the backing to proceed.

Concerning the wisdom of replacing Alonso with Aquilani. Alonso was a playmaker more than a defensive midfielder. Aquilani is also primarily a playmaker. They both approach their duties in different ways but their roles are similar. Alonso could use his incredible range of passing to achieve this. Aquilani would link the defence and attack with movement and intelligent short passing. At least that's the theory. Hindsight is 20:20. Do you really believe that Rafa would still sign him if he knew he would be crocked for most of last season? He has come out and said he was given bad medical advice on Aquilani.

As I said earlier, Rafa did make mistakes in the transfer market. Of course he did. Everyone does! The man has admitted as much himself. I think people on here are being over defensive because you seem to be ignoring:

                        a) mitigating circumstances
                        b) that if you break his transfer dealings down, he actually spent very little (net) compared with our rivals

                          http://www.espnstar.com/football/pre...s-on-football/

Despite the new era under a new ownership, Roy Hodgson accepts future planning has to take a back seat to more pressing matters.

New England Sports Ventures completed their £300million takeover on Friday and they are now looking at all aspects of the club to see where improvements can be made.

But, despite the hope of having a significant budget to spend come January, Hodgson is focusing on football matters.

After a fourth Premier League defeat in eight matches left the club 19th in the table, Liverpool have to face Napoli away from home in the Europa League on Thursday before hosting Blackburn on Sunday.

That is of more concern to Hodgson than a transfer window which is more than two months away.

"I think the owners will be very interested in sitting down and planning things and the club can take comfort in the fact they are moving into a period of stability - it is badly needed," he said.

"There are a lot of things that still need sorting out on a level outside of the football field and they will certainly help there.

"They will finds ways and means of aiding us in those areas but when it comes to us playing we've got the players we have and we have to keep working with them and hopefully they will win some games.

"The transfer window is two and a half months off and there is a lot of football to be played so there is no point in us in trying to put our eggs in the basket of the January transfer window.

"The first thing we have to do is start winning matches and if we can do that and get in a better position and the owners can find the way to back us in the transfer window to improve the team we will obviously do so.

"The transfer window is something which interests us, and we will have to do our scouting work, but it is not something which interests me in the coming week.

"What does interest me is preparing for Napoli and then Blackburn - in particular it is the Blackburn game we need to win."

Hodgson has a two-fold problem at the moment in that the side are conceding goals but are not scoring enough.

In the league Liverpool have scored seven goals and let in 14 in eight matches.

The manager knows he has to find a way of increasing the former while reducing the latter but does not believe one aspect has to suffer in order for the other to benefit.

"It is a problem we are letting in goals but with the offensive line-up we have that is going to be a risk," he said.

"Basically we need to score goals to take pressure off the fact we could let them in.

"Good teams score goals and don't let many in as we see Chelsea doing topping the table.

"They manage to score goals without letting them in and that is what have got to be trying to do as well.

"I'm not prepared to suggest we need to offer something for something else (ie: defensive solidity at the expense of goalscoring). We need to get better in both areas."
