There's no solid proof that Gerrard/Carra were trying to oust Rafa out the club but there's plenty of bits and pieces around to form a decent enough picture of the situation.

As far as I know the drama started when we lost 3-1 to Villa last season and Rafa held the senior players responsible and it just spiraled out from there. Stories started appearing from Winter, Bascombe and Maddock it's well known that they are Gerrard/Carra/Purslow's men in the press, they helped ghostwrite their autobio's etc. Out of no where Murphy has a pop at Rafa too for some reason here.

Gerrard seems like he's phoning it in for most of the season and stories come out about how Rafa has lost the dressing room and how players like Pepe, Torres and Masch will start leaving if Rafa's still here. However for some inexplicable reason these players come out and defend Rafa from the press here, here and here. Zero stories of support for the manager from Gerrard/Carrager.

So the end of the season approaches and stories about Hodgson start popping up, Henry Winter writes an article about how Rafa needs to go and Hodgson isn't a schemer like Rafa, has got good team building skills and can operate on minimal resources. Eventually we sack Rafa and appoint Hodgson, a couple days later Purslow's man in the press Maddock confirms that player power forced Rafa out the club - How Kop player power got rid of Rafa.

Basically the only players with enough influence to for a manager out is probably Pepe, Carra, Gerrard, Masch and Torres. Masch left anyway even though we sacked Rafa. Pepe and Torres defended Rafa constantly throughout the season so why would they want him sacked. All that leaves is Gerrard/Carra.

      Good third post

You could add that Carra would probably not got a new deal if Rafa had stayed and now signed a new two year deal.

A lot on here, myself included did want rafa to go because we had started to get stale and plateau. Some of the players also seemed to have come to the same conclusion, only they were in a position to influence things. Fair dues I say.

In hindsight given who we ended up with and the whole takeover shenanigans we would have been better hanging on to Rafa and certainly the manner of his departure was not befitting a man of his stature.

Now it is clear that Hodgson needs to go because he is clearly completely incompetent. Some of the players (maybe even the same players) have come to the same conclusion and our using their influence to get rid of him. Also fair dues to them I say.

I can't see why some people on here are now giving these players a hard time. Do we or do we not want Hodgson gone? Thank **** for this case of player power I say.

One more thing. We have now made 2 recent managerial mistakes and will probably just about get away with it. However, one more mistake and we are fecked and the worrying thing for me is that I can't for the life of me think of the ideal replacement.

I'm amazed that it's come in so short, in such a short space of time. Either they've taken a tonne of money on it, or the rumours are making the bookies **** themselves.

I'm a bit confused here. Are you saying that it's perfectly reasonable and in fact encourageable to let players (senior or otherwise) decide who our manager shoud be? Because they don't like him? Or his training methods? Or his interview techniques? Or his choice of footwear?

Why don't we just do away with managers and let the spoilt brats run the whole shebang? I mean it's probably fair dues eh?.... jesus wept

I'm not saying that senior players opinions are absolute but their opinions are obviously a very important consideration. If a manager was doing his job properly then it would't be an issue. Rafa wasn't, and Hodgson isn't.

                          Hodgson calm over Purslow departure

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson does not feel his position is under any greater threat now Christian Purslow, the man who helped appoint him, has left his role as managing director.

Purslow, who arrived in June 2009 tasked with finding new investment and then a new owner, announced earlier on Wednesday he was standing down from his position.

He will remain as a non-executive director and an adviser to new owners New England Sports Ventures, who completed a £300million deal last week, but will no longer wield the power he once had.

Hodgson was asked whether he thought the departure of Purslow - seen as one of his key allies - would affect his own position, which has come under increasing scrutiny after a run of one win in eight matches left his side 19th in the Barclays Premier League.

"Not that I know," was his response. "But the fact is that is not a question for me to answer. I had no idea Christian was going to leave the club and I have no opinion on the subject. I came here to work with the football club and not with an individual of the club.

"I also believe my appointment was made after a lot of consideration, after looking at all the alternatives, and I was regarded by the team who made the decision as the best man for the job. I am happy about that and I am happy for that to carry on that way."

Makes me sick to the stomach to think this guy was the best person for the job... Steady the ship Hodgson not fcuking sink it...

Honestly BRE i'm not trying to be atogonistic, but "Rafa wasn't"? You mean ever, for 1 season, or in the players humble opinion? Coz i always thought the Liverpool Way (TM) meant that decision was always the preserve of the Chairman (and we haven't had a proper Chairman han wsn't a figurehea since Moores left). So if the chairman agreed with the Manager & the player(s) didn't like it, then the player could their hook!

Pretty sure Beckham/Keane/Van Nistelroy didn't agree with Lord Vader or Viera/Henry/Petit/Anelka with Wenger and if i remember correctly no-one listened to the poor hard done by little multi-millionaire players. If our board listened to our players and sacked benitez or any other manager (and i think roy is as useful as a chocolate teapot) then they need shooting..

OK, Roy is delusional and arrogant, does he not have any idea how the fans view him?

Just spoke to my mate who works at LFC TV channel. He says Roy's interview yesterday was so srange they are not allowed to show it or post any transcripts. he says that when asked about the Napoli game he says its an utter distraction and waste of time for him.

He also said that Napoli fans were deliquents who hurl bricks at the coach. Went onto talk about his time when visiting Napoli with Inter saying that a mother and daughter gave the team middle finger coming out of a church.

Mate seems to think his interview was incredibly strange, controversial and backwards. Its been banned.

My mate also stated that during the wekend LFC phone in the editors were instructed by Anfield hierachy to encourage calers to vent utter frustrations and emotions. Sometimes he says the channel like to select callers that have milder liberal views but apparenly the owners wanted it totally uncensored to and watched it so they could ge a feel for fans opinions.

Got no evidence to back any of this up but a good source.
It's on the offal. Not quite as bad as it sounds from your description, but still pretty odd.
