To be fair its only Twitter but could be something in it. I think this is just more bull**** from Carra. He's in up to his neck with the Hodgson appt. £90k a week & guaranteed starts every week to top it off!? Course he wants him to stay till the end of the season.

Pepe is the real leader of our club.

“I was disappointed – and I’ve told him this – that he *applied for the job in the *summer because I don’t think that was ever really going to happen for him.” But unlike his predecessor, Hodgson is untroubled by the spectre of Dalglish and keen to harness his stature to enhance the club’s cause.

He said: “When they wanted me for the job, I made it clear to Kenny that he would be with me – not like with Benitez, when he was here in name but not allowed to step foot in Melwood and it was ‘we don’t want anything to do with you’.

Luckily Rafa will be in London next week for the game against spurs, i'm sure he'll give his opinion about what Roy said about him. Just another reason to dislike the guy.

Admitting he wants up to six players to bolster his squad, Hodgson said: “We’re desperately short up front, but whether we can get the real big-hitter we’d like might be difficult. We might have to take a chance on something second best."

I think it's an appalling article. I tried to read it and differentiate between what Hodgson is claimed to have said and Alsop's own words.

He has a strange use of inverted commas and seems to have a habit of identifying where quotes start but not indicating where they end. Difficult to know therefore what he's claiming Hodgeson has said and what are Alsop's own words.

It appears that Roy would have the world believe that Dalglish's role at the Academy and as an ambassador for the club was all his idea.
Unfortunately there are different accounts available for what actually happened, who made those decisions and when.

                      Kenny Dalglish July 2009

"I spoke to manager Rafael Benitez a few months ago and things have progressed from there," Dalglish told the Liverpool website.

"Now that it has come to fruition I am very excited, but also a bit nervous."

Dalglish's arrival back at Anfield has been mooted for some time and comes during a summer in which manager Rafael Benitez has conducted sweeping changes behind the scenes.
"Rafa has made a very brave decision to revamp the academy," added Dalglish.

                      Rafa Benitez July 2009

"I am really pleased to have Kenny as a part of the staff," said Benitez.

"We were looking for someone who has a knowledge and a passion for the club and Kenny is the perfect choice.

"If you're looking for somebody to go around the world on behalf of the club then I don't know anybody better than Kenny.

"When you talk to him about players and football systems it's clear he has a lot of experience. That's good for the club and also for the young players coming through. "We are changing things at the academy, we are bringing in new ideas and new people but we're keeping the spirit and the heart of the club.

"Kenny has played for the club, he's managed the club, he's done everything. He's a fantastic signing."

                      Excerpt from Dalglish Autobiography

In mid-June, I had to let them know my real views. I wanted the job. I couldn't miss the opportunity.

One day I was in a meeting with Christian and the chairman, Martin Broughton, and formally put my name forward. "We don't want you, Kenny," came the reply from Christian and the chairman. Fine. That's their prerogative. They explained they had different plans for me, a position with greater longevity.

"We want you for a role at the club that would be for longer than the tenure of the manager," the board told me. The job focused on player development.

                      It wasn't management, though.

Martin Broughton made that abundantly clear. People have asked me whether I was disappointed and, of course, I was.
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

                        Eh?

It's crystal clear. And if you're referring to the quotation marks at the start of a new paragraph (and none at the end until the very end of his quote), then that is correct.

Hodgson said: “If Kenny’s presence is a threat it is, but the fact is I’m not prepared to pass up on quality people who can help us move forward because I’m personally frightened.

“If the day comes that they decide they want Kenny Dalglish and not me then so be it.

“That wasn’t the case in the summer, but that’s not to say it won’t be forever more. But I have no fears in that respect.

“I know what I can bring to the job and what qualities I have. I’m not a political person, I’m not frightened of these things.

“I don’t know about his ambition, but you can understand that I can’t ask him, ‘do you want my job?’

“I was disappointed – and I’ve told him this – that he applied for the job in the summer because I don’t think that was ever really going to happen for him.” But unlike his predecessor, Hodgson is untroubled by the spectre of Dalglish and keen to harness his stature to enhance the club’s cause.

“I told Kenny, ‘that won’t be the case, I want to tap into you for all the things you can bring’, not least his iconic status. He’s doing a very good job, helping us with our scouting, he still does a lot with the younger players at the academy and he also plays an ambassadorial role.

“You could not find a better person in the world to do that job for Liverpool Football Club and he should be doing it for other managers when I leave.

“His job should be a permanent one.”
Perfectly correct. Look on the BBC or any media outlet in fact, they all apply the same method and it is correct. Hodgson's quotes are there for all to see.

Life according to Roy – Rewriting careers
                            October 30th, 2010 21:43 UK

In the latest episode of ‘life according to Roy’, the Liverpool manager has rewritten the playing careers of Dirk Kuyt, Ryan Babel and Nathan Eccleston.

The three players have all spent the majority of their careers as forwards and have spoke in the past at that being their preferred position, particularly Babel.

But according to their current manager, none of them are forwards and instead they are primarily wide players.

“A club like Liverpool shouldn’t have to rely on non-specialists like Dirk Kuyt or Ryan Babel “doing a job” up front when they are primarily wide players,” said Hodgson.

Back in September it was a different story when Hodgson discussed how he intended to use Babel primarily as a forward to deputise for Fernando Torres, a position Babel himself feels he is more naturally suited to.

Kuyt meanwhile spent the vast part of his career as a forward for Feyenoord before being converted into an attacking winger by previous manager Rafa Benitez, although was still frequently used as a forward also.

Hodgson continued “We have the same problem with the reserves. We don’t have any strikers and a winger called Nathan Eccleston has to play up front.”

Eccleston, who is described as a “fast striker” on the official website, has played most his young career as a forward too.

“In training, I can’t have practice games where each team plays a 4-4-2 because I don’t have the front players to do that.”

Liverpool, in addition to Torres, Kuyt, Babel and Eccleston, have Milan Jovanovic and Daniel Pacheco who are also primarily forwards. Furthermore, Joe Cole was originally told he would be deployed centrally off the main forward.

Not to mention that almost every Liverpool supporter this season would have pointed to the main requirement for the manager being another forward. Hodgson didn’t sign one.

Roy said “There is more chance of a striker coming in this window because we had no money last time. Everything was so convoluted with the ownership issue.

“The first thing people say when I walk down the street is ‘We need a front player’. They can’t all be wrong and we aren’t that stupid either.”

It appears Roy will do whatever it takes to blame the previous manager – and anyone but himself – even completely rewriting the playing history of his current players.

Previous editions of Life according to Roy have featured the impressive performance in the 2-0 defeat to Everton, his failure to defend Torres after accusation from Ferguson, his failure to clearly issue a hands-off to questions linking Torres with Man United and calling Liverpool’s protesting supporters a “distraction”.

Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I don't think the different quotes are necessarily in conflict. It is not clear to me what exactly Dalglish was doing when Beneitiz was here.

It could be that Hodgson had met with Broughton and agreed a longer term enhanced role for Dalglish.

I'm not seeking to assert what the situation actually was but it seems to me that it could possibly have been as Hodgson is claimed to be saying.
