Apart from that, I really can't see any real improvements - results aside. We still sit too deep and we don't do enough in the final third. He should also know enough by now that Spearing & Poulsen are both not good enough and should never play them, even in those kind of games. What's the point, they don't have a future at this club?

I thought last night he put on a bit of a show, with his off field antics and half time substitution. I don't think it's alien to John Henry & his wife being there.

    I can't warm to him, I just can't.
No me neither, I have no affection for him whatsoever and he doesn't strike me as a particularly pleasant bloke. Egomaniacal, uninspiring and a bit, well, arrogant. I also thought he was trying hard to impress his boss last night. Although he looked terrified when Gerrard was about to take the penalty.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

3-4million is lot in anyones book and I would imagine it ay be prudent for Liverpool to bide their time financially before firing the guy.

Personally last nights performance was pretty poor, whether it be as a result of the week squad or Roys tactical accumen.

i dont think anyone in football would disagree with that.

Until I see a real change in the quality of the performances then I will continue to view Roys tenure with negativity.

I genuinely believe we are playing better. The problem is that the players who are holding us back are Konchesky, Poulson and (unfortunately) Joe Cole, who's been woeful for me thus far. The players Roy has brought in are the one's who's performances have added the least to the team.

Now, like Rafa tended to, he may realise they aren't up to it and get shot of them quickly. He seems to have already realised that Poulson shouldn't be starting in league games. If he does that then great. A progressive assistant manager wouldn't hurt either. It'll be interesting to see how he responds to his authority being watered down by Comelli too.
My main gripe with him isn't with the fact that he's brought two appalling players in Kon****sky and Poultry, but simply in his tactics and general arrogant demeanour. He should have been more humble, given his background - he's never won anything of note despite his 'experience'. But in hindsight, I can understand he'd be retorting with that kind of tripe because he was being questioned from all corners - like someone had said, he was 'cornered'.

He's earned a little respite at least with the results lately. His comments about 'being too confident' ahead of Chelsea goes down well with me. The team needs to earn this confidence now by beating or at least drawing with them. Do that, I'll confirm that there's been a general improvement, which isn't really noticeable when you watch us play at the moment.

Looking at this in the kindest light I can I'll say that the team under his management has won three on the bounce. His signings have been appalling though and undoubtably now the weak links in the team. Plus I hate seeing Carra at rightback. But having won three I had a glimmer of hope that we might go and do something against Chelsea. To hear him quash that with his negative bull**** and for him to state it as if a bad prediction, not result but prediction, would reflect poorly on him was maddening. We've been spoilt with Rafa. He always sounded positive. We WILL finish fourth, we are focussed on WINNING the next game etc.

I'm like you Nige. I don't like the man, I don't like his signings (bar Raul who I think could be a good player for us), I don't like his tactics but I'll take them if they are winning games. I utterly detest his public interpretations of our future chances in big matches and feel they serve to do nothing but undermine, in this case, three pretty decent results.

The team needs to built confidence, not earn it, and one of the ways this can be done is by the manager continually reinforcing it with positive statements, rather than undermining it with negative or defeatest comments.

Yeah, I meant that in the context of Dodgson's 'humbleness', as he's been notorious for saying that we've had some 'famous European victories' under his short reign to date.

Of course, we've got to be positive and go on a win the match on Sunday. What he says in the media doesn't necessarily mean that he's telling the same things in private to his players. He hasn't 'earned' the right to be cocky about his teams at the moment, so I don't mind him putting things into context against the likes of Chelsea, who are the current champions.

Would saying something like 'We know it will be a tough game but we are going out there to win. We have played well lately and are confident we can carry that form into the weekend' have appeared cocky? It reads a damn site better than "I'm not going to say we'll beat them as I'll look like a mug if we lose".

He might dampen expectations but his post match comments are often quite deluded. Again last night he said we were unlucky to go in at half time one down.......lucky not to be more than one down IMO. He also added that last night was our best ninety minutes under him so far

We were terrible first half yesterday and Gerrard apart we weren't much better second half. If we had lost or drawn I dont think we could have complained too much. If it wasnt for SG we would have lost for sure.

Don't forget though Napoli are a top, top team. .....are they heckers like they're pretty poor bar a couple of players and teams like Chelsea and Arsenal would destroy them comfortably.

What he says in the press is annoying, but not important.

It's the results that matter, followed after that by the performances. And I'm not even talking about wanting to be entertained. That can come next season. My only worry performance wise has been that we haven't really shown anything to me that would suggest we can go and put concistant win streaks together up until we get some much needed new players in.

I think a victory at Chelsea is unlikely, but we then have three winnable games. Not easy, but games such as Bolton away we should look to be winning. It is imperative that irrespective of Sundays result we then go and win the next three league games. If we do that we are back on track, regardless of performances.

Hodgson may be getting some luck, but with Reinas clanger v Arsenal and a failure to convert a multitude of chances v Blackpool I think he is due some.

And as I've said before, Torres is the difference. If Torres had been on form this season we'd likely be right in contention for 4th already, in spite of insepid performances.
                    Forwards.......

True, but he could at least go with "We're starting to show some good form, so we've gotta fancy our chances", rather than the defeatest **** he spouts.

In fairness mate Napoli are 4th place in Seria A, so they are not ****e. In fact going on league performances - surely the best barometer to judge a team by - they are a better outfit than the Fiorintina team that took us apart last season, in games when we had our best XI available out.

With the teams we have put out against them we have done very, very well. We could have lost both games, but we could have won both games too. But I think other the two games I'd class both teams as pretty even. And I don't think we'll often be able to say that a severely weakened Liverpool side is as good as 4th place in anyone of the major leagues such as Italy, Spain, Germany and France.

                              Absolutely agree.

I was trying to be a bit more 'sensible' as regards to a lot of people jumping on with how tedious it was to nitpick Roy's comments. Therefore, tried that for a change.

He could, and it is annoying he doesn't. But does it really matter? The only thing that matters in football is what happens out on the pitch. You can shout your mouth of after the game if you so wish.

Rafa came out last season and said we'd get 4th. It didn't make us any better, or likely any worse either for that matter. What matters is what's said behind closed doors for the players mentality. And what matters to the fans is the full time result.

I don't want Roy and want an ambitious young manager who plays attractive football and has an outwardly positive attitude. But this season was about the results only and if Roy continues to get them then fair play to him.

And whilst I want him sacked, if waiting until the end of the season to get the right candidate is the plan, then I'm all for that as well.
