Seems as if he's rammed it down the throat of his favourite player as well.

Christian Poulsen believes he is beginning to adapt to the pace of the Barclays Premier League and has set his sights on making a key contribution to Liverpool's bid to break back into the top four.

The Danish midfielder appeared as a late substitute as the Reds saw their winning run come to an end with a 1-1 draw at Wigan.

He admits the result wasn't what Roy Hodgson's men would have hoped for, but remains optimistic their hard work on the training ground will reap its rewards in the months ahead.

"It's been a tough start for us but we are improving and want to get in the top four as quickly as possible," said Poulsen.

"I thought we started the game well and it looked like we were going to win it. But Wigan were strong in the second half and the early goal helped them.

"After a brilliant win over Chelsea it was frustrating for us but it's a tough Premier League this season with teams taking points off one another. Every team can beat each other - there is no easy game and Wigan showed that against us."

He added: "It was good for me to play the last 20-25 minutes and I wanted to show my best for the team.

"There have been many changes at Liverpool and I have come in this season as a new player. We have a new manager and new owners. I am trying to learn as quickly as possible to adapt to the league. The manager has shown a lot of faith in me.

"I know I've got a lot of work to do and I will work hard every day in training at Melwood so I can help this team.

"Liverpool is a great club and I feel really proud to be here. I feel I can improve and give a lot more."

At least in his press conference he admitted we were **** and the passing was poor. When we played this kind of performance a month ago he was claiming we were playing great and we were unlucky. It's an improvement but still disgraceful comments from a manager of a big club.

1-1 we need a goal, get Poulsen on...

Same with my old man. After each of the wins lately, he'd send a gloating text "There's only one Roy Hodgson!" ...I explain why he's so out of his depth and he just says things like "got to start from the back, once the confidence is back the football will improve".

No, Dad, it really won't. This is the top and bottom of Hodgson's tactical masterplan.

Also this is one of those totally English/Luddite approaches. I agree it is easier to begin with the defense but in modern football pressing is at least as important as the ability to fall back into pre-prescribed positions. It also acts as a starting point and catalyst for attacks. The fact Roy seems to actively discourage it even when it is working well for us is a major point against him in my view.

The most important thing in todays football is to press high and force the opposition into mistakes so you can get quick counter attacks. It was different 10-15 years ago but now a high pressing tactic is the key to success.

You simply don't have a chance if you don't play a high pressing tactic. EVERY big club and country use that tactic, except us of course.

isnt the barca philosphy "when you lose the ball you have 5 seconds to get it back"? sure i heard something along those lines on sky sports la liga show. cause you see barca lose the ball and immediatley noo matter where on the pitch you have 2-3 players hunting down the ball.
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

Aye I think Guardiola's mantra is "win the ball back within no more than 7 seconds after you've lost it".

It really wasnt different years ago

Paisleys, Fagans & Dalglishs teams were doing this in the 70's & 80's
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Rushie was the archetypal 'defensive' forward.

Have to agree it was shocking that he sat there just wincing sinking is head deeper and deeper in to his coat like a 100 year old fcuking tortoise.
that cinile hand clap action, trying to gee up the players to keep going, was embarassing to watch.

How can a manager of 35 years not have a plan B, is beyond belief IMO.
Watching that dross last night it struck me we didn't even look like a PL team and made Wigan look like Barca..

WE need to start making some noise or the damage is going to be so great that it will take a long time to recover. NESV need to grow some and say enough is enough...

I am actually dreading Stoke at the weekend, play like that and we'll be going backwards down the league very fast.

It's Sunday league stuff from Hodgson. Clapping his hands and shouting "COME ON!" over and over again FFS. Sorry to mention his predecessor but at least with him he had a clear idea of what he wanted to do, continually shaping things, offering instruction. Now we've got Mike Bassett.

At that moment I vomited a little, not much, I could swallow it back but still......WTF, why not Ngog? Or Ecclestone or just keep Kuyt on the pitch if he wasn't complaining. And move the f*****g team further up the pitch and narrow the vast gap between defence and midfield, we are so far from playing compact that it's untrue, huge spaces here and there, no pressing, just reactive, passive football!
