Regarding Coyle. Obviously in a perfect world we would be looking to appoint someone with a proven track record. But there is something about Coyle. He's got Bolton playing excellent football, and he's done it in a short space of time.

While I'd have certain misgivings, I'd be postive about him getting the job. I really can't see Roy going anywhere until the Summer though
He has been at Bolton for such a short time and all because he has had a good year he is being linked to us. Sorry but that is ridiculous. He is doing well in a weak league, that doesn't mean he is the quality of manager we should be looking at.

Jeez, this just gets worst and worst everyday..Even Santa won't help..

      Dear Santa,

I've been a really good boy this year. I left milk and cookies for you under the tree, and I left carrots for your reindeer outside the backdoor. All I ask, on behalf of all the Liverpool fans, is that you get us a really good manager and get rid of the current imbecile - Hodgsonasaurus..

      Your Friend,
      Rix007

      Dear Rix007,
Milk gives me the ****s and carrots make the deer fart in my face. You want to be a kiss-ass? Leave me a glass of Chivas Regal and some Toblerone. Oh and only God can help you Liverpool supporters now.

Well its finally Christmas and we have no more games so in summary:

        1. Promised to get best out of current players - failed
        2. Buy players that could help - failed
        3. Get key results against easier opposition - failed

Can't say we didn't give him a fair chance. I was hopeful but the hope dwindled every poor away result.

Roy Hodgson insists Liverpool will take a considered approach to the winter transfer window and hopes that fans will respect the need for patience.

The Reds are desperate to return to at least the top four of the Premier League after finishing in a miserable seventh position under former boss Rafa Benitez last season.

Hodgson was appointed in the summer as the man to restore the 18-time champions of England's fortunes, but he has been criticised after already losing seven league games.

The ex-Fulham manager has repeatedly emphasised that he is working with a largely inherited squad and he is expected to address that fact in January after being linked with Ashley Young, Johan Elmander and Gary Cahill.

But Hodgson admits it could be a long-term project, saying in the Daily Mirror: "I would plead for patience really. Of course we want Liverpool to be the Liverpool of old. We want to be up there every year competing in the Champions League.

          Destroy
"But we might have to accept that it will take us more than a few months. That would be a small price to pay if you get it right. You only have to look at teams who have tried to stay in the league or get into the top four.

"Clubs have virtually been destroyed by people making bad decisions. It's not because the owners haven't given money or supported the manager. It's just that they have brought in the wrong people"

Hodgson has said in the past that he is eager to add new faces in January, but it remains to be seen whether club owners NESV, fronted by John Henry, decide to spend money in an inflated winter market.

"If the owners want to invest a lot of money, that's up to them,&" said Hodgson. "If we find the right players, I'm not going to be saying to them, 'don't do it,'. I'm not that stupid. I want to work with the best players possible.

"But with the change that has gone on at the club and the new regime, it would be sensible for the new owners to be a bit more circumspect and get a closer look at everything.

          Dilemma
"I don't think it would be a bad thing for us to keep testing out this squad of players.

"Before I start bringing players in, I've got to be aware that when I do, I will be pushing (Jonjo) Shelvey or (Martin) Kelly back. I've got to be convinced that the person coming in is the right one. That's the dilemma. When do we give the youngsters a chance?

"With that in mind, we have to be careful. My message to them would be - and it's no secret because I've had discussions with John about it - if the right players become available, and we really think they will push us on, we should go for them.

"We shouldn't hesitate if they feel they can do it. But I don't think we should be encouraging them to throw a lot of money at it straight away"

Roy has hit the nail on the head with this

Clubs can cause themselves damage by bringing in the wrong people - like Konchesky, Poulsen and yourself Roy

For the record Roy I as a Liverpool supporter for approx 25 years am not 'desperate' for us to return to the top 4.
What I expect from any current Liverpool manager is to have us competing for 3rd to 6th in the league then hopefully with some investment and the youngsters coming through becoming more consistant and better season by season.

What I don't expect is mid table mediocracy from a senille old fool who is frightend of his own shadow

“It is still a team that I have not put together, I want to make that clear,” Hodgson said.

“I came here and took the team over and I have not made that many changes. I brought in Paul Konchesky to play left back, Raul Meireles to replace Javier Mascherano and Joe Cole came in at the same time as me and Christian Poulsen. The other players I have basically inherited.

“I think I would be a good comparison with Tottenham because Harry came in just as I came into Fulham, so he will just be completing three years and he has brought in a lot of players. When you look at the bench, you have Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane; three players he brought in. Roman Pavlyuchenko might have been there, Gareth Bale might have been there, but Niko Kranjcar, Luka Modric and Wilson Palacios are players he brought in.
I wonder how much of the Harry Redknapp and Spurs comparison is intended for Comolli to hear? He's basically saying that Redknapp inherited an iffy squad and it was only when Harry was able to bring in his own players that he was able to turn them into a decent side...isn't he?

I heard Lawrenson yesterday slagging off Benitez for always having an excuse. I don't suppose we'll hear him saying the same about Hodgson's public pronouncements.

Why are there so many retired Liverpool players who don't rate and are so rude about Benitez? It mystifies me, it really does.

I can understand them being critical even though I might not agree with them but so many are dismissive and hostile.
                      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Its something I cant fathom either. It's not just ex Reds like that Lawrenson however - it's a media wide thing. Most odd.

You could say the same about Villas Boas and Klopp.

No one is saying it wouldn't be a gamble, Matt. I think people are warming to the possibility based on how he's done over the past couple of years. I've been very impressed with him myself. And how he's managed to get *that* Bolton team playing... well he practically deserves a knighthood!

I suspect it is largely because Rafa obviously hated the 'old boys' network (best exemplified by the LMA) that seems ingrained in the establishment of English football. Unlike Wenger who appears at times to have the same disdain he did not always make nice with the media.

If you want to enact radical change as Wenger and Rafa did throughout a club then you will always upset people (Heighway perhaps the most obvious one in our case). English football needs to adopt foreign ideas for youth development but has always been resistant and insular. In a lot of ways the football community reaps what it sows.
