Sweeping statement. I haven't seen much to say that he's going to be a 'top drawer manager'. What are the characteristics that you think will lead him to become one?

So what have you seen then that makes you think he won't be a success?

He has the players respect first and foremost and if you can get their respect then you will have a group of individuals who will work hard for each other. I also like the fact that he is confident, he speaks well and is very positive in the way he conducts himself.

His Bolton team are industrious, creative and hard working and they play some decent stuff too. He did fantastically well at Burnley in bringing them up through the divisions. I take on board he hasn't won much in the way of trophies as such but this has been reflected on the clubs he's managed.

If he was at a bigger club where he has the money to support him and his plans for the club going forward then I am confident he would prove to be a success.

I see in another thread that the blackpool game is doubtful. That would take us up to practically the opening of the next transfer window. Surely time to bin the hodge.

Losing 35 games away from home. Thats the reason we only once went close to winning the league.

You didn't answer my question. All criticism is valid but only when compared objectively.
Anyone can say an average of 29 points away from home in a season is 'poor' but compare it to the other 15 teams in the league.
If for example Man C, Spurs, Everton, Villa (so other top 6/8 teams) have a better record then fair play.

According to LDP being 'young' 'enthusiastic' and 'enjoying being a manager' are the 3 main attributes Coyle brings to being a top class manager capable of winning us trophies

If this was true, would be an interesting choice. He wouldn't be my first choice, buy I think he'd do well and it would be exciting to see what would happen.

I cannot believe Coyle is even being mentioned. laughable

He doesn't even know what its like to win a trophy as a manager. He has won **** all in 5 years, He might offer potential, but so did Babel and look where that got us.

Only Adrian Durham i know, but he said a couple of weeks ago " he had it on very good authority that Coyle had/has been discussed at board level by Arsenal", with a view to him maybe being Wengers eventual successor, different time frame i know than him being given a top job immediately though, which is what we are talking about.

I'd be amazed if a deal had been done with Coyle without anyone in the media hearing about it.

I got it off Twitter. It's on the forums of the two clubs. Could be a Burnley fan trying to wind up Bolton fans, we'll see.

In an ideal world liverpool would get a top proven manager in, but there's only a few of them out there and there all in big time jobs. Only rafa will be available, and there are plenty reasons already mentioned as to how he would be an awkward appointment.

On the subject of Rafa, even if he'd never managed Liverpool, I'd still have reservations. He falls out too easily with people. I'm not sure him and comolli would hit it off.

But anyhow. If we can't get a proven manager in, we have to look elsewhere. Number one for me would be Villas Boas, I've already mentioned why elsewhere. But Coyle is an interesting one.

The immidiate requirement for me is that our new manager speaks English for obvious reasons. Coyle obviously fits there . Next up is wanting to see attacking football based on a pass and move game with the ball on the deck. Coyle did this at Burnley and was keeping their heads above water in the prem. Then he went to Bolton and he's turned a long ball team into one that plays football the right way.

At both teams in the Prem he has got results that most would say would be beyond his playing squad. He's also ambitious and talks up his team, without being foolish.

Coyle needs time before he attempts to make any sort of step up, he is doing wonders at Bolton (no pun intended :P )and completely changing the way they play. He seems to be getting the best out of the players too, man management and motivation skills seems prominent in the game. Big egos and players mentalities need to be looked after just as much as the tactical approach so it seems in todays game. And the big motivators likes of Mourinho/Guardiola/Fergie/Redknapp seem to be flourishing in todays football.

Coyle isn't ready for LFC, he has a lot to prove before he should be considered IMO, but he is going in the right direction. He seems a great enthusiast for the game and its refreshing to see a manager full of emotions that can always crack a big smile no matter what the circumstances (Getting sick of looking at Roy lifelessly buried in his jacket & Rafa was no better). Anyways he has a long way to go but best of luck to the guy (well except against us of course, hope he has a mare then)

I don't know about this "time" issue - I wonder if you're a top manager, you're a top manager. Look at Guardiola - if we were Barca, we'd have been saying the same thing. Mourinho hadn't been a manager long before Porto (if at all?) - some will just fail and fall by the wayside, Klinsmann for example.

I guess I'm wondering if the top managers actually need "time" or are they instantly successful regardless?
