Not an accomplished performance, but not a terrible one. We just lack that cohesion in the final third, getting the wrong ball played on too many occasions, altho with some more composed finishing or shooting from Gerrard and Torres, we could have troubled their keeper a bit more than we did.

Bolton rarely threatened, apart from set-pieces (often won by cheating, diving players) but the day Bolton don't threaten from set-pieces will be a cold day in hell.

I don't want Hodgson here, i gave him ten games and i've not been impressed, but i also don't want NESV to be rushed into replacing him, so whilst we soldier on...it's not like we're out of touch with the top 4, by the way...5 points...and 3 points of 5th...or 2 points of Rafa's coveted 7th place finish...then NESV can find the perfect man for the job.

That's because he wasn't fit. Now he's fit, playing regularly but he's worse. Is there an odd variable in all of this? Roy Hodgson?
      Are we winning?

Yeah, i remember that game, was live on Sky Sports, we were brilliant from start to finish.

Remember Aurelio pinging one in from the left and Kuyt met the cross with a thumping header, then Torres chipped the ball in for Gerrard to head us into a 2nil lead...game over

So that was his grand plan after 5 years in charge then.

The tactics were again ****e and we really didn't deserve the win- even Carra admitted that. I was texting my mate who is a Bolton supporter and was at the game and I was almost embarassed to have beaten them.

Personally I put his form in the world cup down to injury

You can probably right off a couple of the early games this season because of that as well

I think the problem now is tactics, hes showing flashes of quality but hes also showing major signs of being disillusioned by the tactics and system and rightly so because they in no way play to his strengths

I was extra pleased to see Maxi get the goal. Been getting a lot of uncalled for abuse from fans, so hopefully now starting to find his feet again. He really should be more of a goal threat for us than he has been so far in his career. Hope he now kicks on from here.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

He's a class act, and if he was playing for a top quality team, he'd be lauded as a top top player. But surrounded by players with no confidence and trying to play for an idiotic manager with rubbish tactics, his quality is strongly hamstrung.

I hate players who try things that so obviously wont come off - everyone in the ground knows it'll never work, but they try it anyway, and it goes wrong - Maxi is the absolute opposite of this. He knows what he can do and what he cant do, and therefore sticks to what he's good at and doesnt try stupid things he's incapable of.

                  Very intelligent player.

Not a coincidence that we play better in central defense without Carra playing there.

I think that is the main reason to why Skrtel and Kyrgiakos play better now. Nothing to do with tactics that work better or anything like that.

Carra is just not good enough anymore. Our central defense is simply better without him, nothing more nothing less.

When Johnson gets back then I hope Carra get benched. He isn't good enough to be in our starting XI anymore.

"When Johnson gets back" ffs, we've looked more solid defensively since Johnson's been out of the team and despite not being anywhere near ideal at right back, Carra will always be the better DEFENDER, no reason to a change a winning team.

I still say Carragher is our best defender and like Rudo has said Johnson being out has done us a favour

The problem with Hodgsons system is that because we play so deep and invite balls into the box you need someone capable of heading a ball (Soto). There is no coincidence that we have looked "better" for him being at the back whether that is to be at the expense of Carragher or of Skrtel at centrehalf remains to be seen. IF Hodgson is to persist with this sitting deep then Soto has to be the first name on his teamsheet who plays alongside him is inconsequential imo

No reason to change a winning team yes but there is every reason to change a team that is playing **** and only win because of luck.

Agger is our best defender by a mile. If you want us to score more goals and create more chances then Agger is a must. Now it takes to long time to get the ball out of defense if you don't count hoof as quick of course.

Better organization means Agger in the middle of the defense. If you want us to hope for luck to win the games then Agger isn't a must.

                          Better passing game......Agger.
Better defense and hope for a 0-0 or a lucky goal.....No Agger.

It's also possible that with a solid CB pairing alongside him, Johnson's performances may well improve too.

Obviously Carra's a better defender, but in terms of going forward and offering width (something which we have zero of) and threat/creativity, Johnson is quality.

If Agger is to play then you'd need a change in system imo

No disrespect but even though hes good at bringing the ball out of the back if we dont push up hes going to have run a long way to carry it into any useful areas

As for better organisation then I think you are well wide of the mark, Carragher is the best organiser of the back four bar none

If we are to play a higher line then Agger is a must, if we are to carry on as is Soto is a must

If you want to rely solely on organisation and discipline then Carragher is a must

The only player who doesnt have a specialised niche is Skrtel imo

Its also possible that Johnson playing at rightback has made Carragher look beyond his years
