Sth Melbourne only really appealed to Greek Melbournians, Knights/Croatia to Croats etc.

You still based in Melbourne? Red's games still get a big turn out at the Celtic Club?
True, it was felt it was limiting the market, but the product was being severely damaged by the violence, the two were inextricably linked. Remove the violence and I suggest that the ethnicity issues could have been overcome. Although whatever they do AFL so donates the culture its going to be difficult.

I am based in Ballarat, moved out here a few years ago, bit of space, fresh air and cold.

Just googled lemonheads I thought they going to an Australian Band. To cut a long story short found a place in california called Ballarat and this video. http://www.desertusa.com/video_pages/ballarat.html Some would say the two places are similar. Loved the name Seldom Seen Slim.

The association of football with ethnic minorities in Australia has, up until the last 5 years or so, really held back the game. If you were of 'White Australia' stock, you played Aussie Rules or Rubgy. I used to get in fights all the time at highschool because I was a 'skip' playing 'wogball'.
Little bit of topic but expressing the sense of national patriotism outside the motherland through clubs' participation, which leads to higher than normal tensions when ethnic minorities play, is absolutely normal but it is not to be wrongly associated to historic animosity between those 2 countries cause it does not exist.

Yes Greeks are Orthodox and Croats are Catholics but the religious differences do not make them ethnic enemies as it's the case between Serbs and Croats.

If you want to see ethnic hatred that is deeply entrenched within all spheres of life including sport or in this case football see if you can find the documentary "Frontline Football Bosnia vs. Serbia".

Forgive me for speaking out of turn, being a lurker and all, but I don't beleive a word of this, sure there seems to be one or two posters making things personal towards Roy but I don't think that theres anyone currently speaking out about Roy wanting Liverpool to fail as well.

I'm more than willing to bet my ludocrisly high post count that if Roy was to suddenly start getting the team playing well and also saying the right things about the club, it's players and the supporters, then said supporters would give Roy a chance and all the animosity would stop.

As it is the terrible tactics, uninspiring play(Gerrard thursday excepted) and quite frankly bizarre comments coming from Roy means I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon. I'm more than willing to be proven wrong

It would take more that a handful of results for that to happen though, we'd also need to see major changes in the way we play and the stuff he comes out with in press conferences.

I've got nothing against him personally, and would be happy for him to be successful. But going by what his said and done so far, I think it's unlikely that he will make the changes necessary (just my opinion obviously).
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

completely agree, the thing is, each thing that Roy is getting wrong on its own would be forgivable, having mainly managed clubs with lower expectations than ourselves, but when he seems to be getting everything wrong (or at least the most important things) it just looks more and more like a bad descision to take him on.

Well said - those sort of comments are just juvenile, divisive and completely worthless bull****. And he still has the temerity to complain when 90% of the forum is taking the piss out of him.

Good post Nate. You're the first who put the last disclaimer bit at the bottom: "I'm more than willing to be proven wrong". Despite your opinion, I've seen the contrary among a few posters.

like i say i'd imagine most on here feel the same, they may not have said it in so many words.

My problem with Roy, is his ****e midtable mentality, his not 'getting' LFC, his rubbish tactics and footballing mentality, his rubbish eye for players, his idiotic idea that Agger shouldnt 'play football' and should just hoof it, his stupid disrespectful comments about players and fans, his refusal to stick up for his players when Ginsoak attacks them, his refusal to dismiss transfer talk about our top players, his clueless touchline antics, his inability to make a change when it needs it, his stupid idea that Pepe needs to be more 'english' in his goalkeeping, the lack of bodies we commit forward, the lack of tempo in our attacking play, and possibly a few other things.

If these all change, then i dont mind him.
