If he'd played better tactics and personel from the start he wouldn't have needed Gerrard. That said, I can't fault him since Napoli away. It's a results business and he's getting them.

I still want him gone, but if he can carry on winning games fair play to him, he's doing his job. Style of play this year doesn't matter. Get us 4th place, then allow us to get a top young manager in and he can swan of to England with his rep intact. Win win all round.

I'm not anywhere near convinced Hodgson can get us 4th, but I'll be happily proved wrong.

I'm not attacking Rafa, if you read carefully I've also included Houllier. This was in response to 'manager creams himself over Gerrard'.

So I added other managers that have creamed themselves over him. Not a crime.

Had Gerrard not scored those goals against Olympiakos (read Napoli today) then there would have been no Juventus games for Garcia to have started to shine. I thought we were talking of one game?

I am sick to death of seeing Meireles being hopelessly misused. Spends 10 minutes off the striker, then goes out to the right, and finds himself on the left too. If ever there's been a genuinely orthodox, all-round central midfield player, it's Meireles - and yet more often than not he finds himself marooned on the wing.

A central three of:

Gerrard
Lucas - Meireles

Actually has the potential to be very, very good.

I just don't think we'll see that often under Hodgson.

Olympiakos - two half time subs score then Gerrard gets a cracker. Final, Gerrard scores but Dudek makes a double wonder save, Hamann changed the game, Carra defends like never before.

He's our best player and as such will always be the stand out man.
