I don't know Soi Convent or Molly Malone's, but I can heartily recommend Gulliver's bar in Soi 5 off Sukhumvit Road, very close to Nana Skytrain station. Gulliver's is a chain and there are several of them around Thailand in tourist areas. The Sukhumvit area is very lively with plenty of bars and good nightlife.

Gulliver's is very similar to the big sports bars I've seen in America in particular, very well-appointed, smart, clean, beautifully air-conditioned, modern with lots of TVs around the place, including one very big screen showing the game of the day. Lots of pool tables too if you like that kind of thing.

Another notable thing about Gulliver's that's very rare in Thailand is that they have modern, spotlessly clean toilets that wouldn't be out of place in a a posh hotel. Most Thai bogs are awful, basic, health hazards to be avoided at all costs, so it's worth knowing of a hygienic, western-style alternative in a third world country.

I was in the above bar to see us win 2-1 at Goodison a season or two ago when Kuyt scored the last-minute penalty winner. Liverpool are enormously popular in Thailand so there are always loads of reds' fans watching the games.

You can get reasonable food in Gulliver's and they also sell Beerlao, of which I'm also a fan. I don't usually drink lager but there's little else in Thailand, but Beerlao (from neighbouring Laos, hence the name!) actually has a bit of character compared with the usual fizzy, bland, tasteless lagers there.

        Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool
        White Hart Lane
        Kick-off: 16.00 GMT
TV: Live Sky Sports 2 & highlights, BBC1 Match of the Day.

Tottenham (Probable, 4-4-2): Gomes; Hutton, Gallas, Kaboul, Assou-Ekotto; Lennon, Jenas, Modric, Bale; Defoe, Pavlyuchenko.
Liverpool (Probable, 4-2-3-1): Reina; Johnson, Skrtel, Carragher, Konchesky; Maxi, Lucas; Cole, Meireles, Kuyt; Torres.
        Referee: Martin Atkinson. Matches: 11. R7 Y36.

        Tale of the game

Spurs are bidding to win a third game in a row for the first time in the Premier League since March, following the victories over Blackburn and Arsenal.

At Arsenal Spurs were 2-0 behind; in total they have come from losing positions to claim 13 points, with wins at Arsenal and against Fulham, Villa and Wolves and a draw against Everton.

Indeed, Spurs have conceded the first goal in eight of their last 11 Premier League outings.

In the last two meetings at White Hart Lane it has ended 2-1 to Spurs. Last season Sébastien Bassong scored the 59th minute winner.

On Wednesday, Jermain Defoe came on during the 3-0 win over Werder Bremen and the striker could start. But the likes of Tom Huddlestone and Michael Dawson are still missing.

Liverpool have won four and drawn one of their last six Premier League games and have Lucas Leiva available after a one-match ban. But Steven Gerrard is still missing with a hamstring strain.

However Joe Cole could return for Liverpool after a hamstring strain to face the team he almost joined in the summer, and against his former manager at West Ham, Harry Redknapp.

Last season: Tottenham 2 Liverpool 1, Liverpool 2 Tottenham 0.

Stat of the game: Spurs need three goals for 100 at home in the league against Liverpool.
Liverpool 4-2-3-1 probable?? Absolutely no chance. I wish we would play that formation, but Hodgson will stick with his two banks of four sitting deep surrendering territory and inviting pressure.

Gulliver's in Khao San breaks the rule I'm afraid.

          Adding to that on Suk...

          Bulls Head
          Robin Hood
          The Londoner
          The Australian (Oz bar?)
          The Office (also Oz dominated)

On another bog note, don't expext paper if it's a Thai bar or older establishment as Redspin notes. All you will see is a hose pipe to shove up your arse. The large basin and pan are the flush.

          Enjoy

          PS - don't forget Silom Soi 4

Yeah, I have been to Cambodia, I kinda know the deal with the night markets, you can normally bargain hard and there is always other people selling the exact same stuff.

Sounds like a need to wet my whistle on some of this Beerlaos!

Watch and learn. The last goal is my all time favourite goal. The new breed can learn about movement off the ball by watching this.

Those that killed her, were following the law.

As you say - the team could pretty much kick the ball into any open space they liked and a red shirt would be there to receive it...

This must be the least amount of games I've ever watched during a season. How is it that practically every one of our games is late sunday nights? Frustrating beyond belief since its always like 2-3am monday mornings, and you know what people usually do on mondays. ffs

Spurs always struggle after a CL game, they have played plenty of high profile games recently and alot of them will be tired. It will be a close game, I don't know what the outcome will be but I know quite a few of their players will struggle to match the fitness of our team who will be fresh and ready
They've only lost 1 game to Wigan in the last 8 after CL games I think, and have won 5 or 6

I thought they did ok too yet I keep reading how bad they are after CL. Just checked and out of 6 they have won 3, drew 1 and lost 2. That's not too bad and the average is slightly better than their overall PL total meaning statistically they are a better team after CL matches. Acceptable for some of us to get confused, but not only should a paid journalist know the craic, they could at least take all of 30 seconds to research it if not.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

                                I ****ing dread playing Spurs.

Not because they're great or that I expect us to lose, it's because of their ****ing fans. They're just ****ing horrible. Possibly worse than United, Everton and Chelsea fans.

                                **** off Spurs.
