I hinted at this the other day, but I'm slightly concerned that the club aren't offering these players on 2 years fair contracts, hence the agents touting them about.

Thing is we have no idea if they are in discussions or not, all guess work at the moment and idiots on twitter stirring things up.

I just find it odd that a few players have mentioned new contracts recently (Agger included) or only have 2 years left (if reports are true), yet the only one I can think of who has signed or was offered was Shelvey, on low wages no doubt.

Sadly, this is the direction we look to be heading if we keep selling our best players year after year.

What will we do with that £25m? Sign more mediocre players?

That money is no guarantee for improvement, having Agger is a guarantee of having a top defender in the squad. Look what happened when we sold Alonso, we took that money and flushed it down the toilet.

No club with any ambition will sell their best defender in his prime when he doesn't even want to leave.

If we've been lowballing his agent in contract negotiations, we only have ourselves to blame. To keep and sign top players, you need to pay market value.
