Hodgson sold him because he hated defenders who can pass. Rodgers clearly doesn't. The sale of Agger isn't a symptom of the types of broader failings in his approach it was with Hodgson. Also we seemed to be looking for a much lower fee which was going to be **** all use rebuilding the team.

I'm not a massive Rodgers fan but there could be a reasonable logic behind this move from him.

Rodgers cushioning the blow for the faithful...
That would be a bigger worry than simply being out-muscled by clubs with more money. Skrtel and Agger were as good as any partnership in the league last season, so i'm wondering how Rodger's mythical system would somehow render this partnership less useful, unless he's got someone lined up that will make it just as good, if not better.

Really awful comment for a Liverpool Manager to make - maybe he doesn't quite understand the club as we thought he did. Disappointing to say the least.

There could be. But I don't accept that there is.

In the first half of last season I think that holds water, second half they didn't look so good. For me it is the Skrtel, Agger + Lucas triangle that was/is really good. Perhaps Rodger's simply has a different conception of how we defend and hence different players will work well in it?

Just sounds like we are skint and will accept offers on anyone to bring some cash in.

I'll be well ****ed off if we sell Agger. What would you rather have Agger or £20m in the bank, and a big Agger shaped hole in the defence?

Completely agree but I'm wondering if Rogers is looking at this with a FSG sabremetrics head on and thinking that anything over £20m is good money for a bloke who has a better than even chance of being injured for a good chunk of the season.

“It is unacceptable to play for one of Liverpool’s arch rivals,” he said.

Agger also pledges his loyalty by stating he would never consider a move to another English team, but has no hard feelings towards his former team-mate who he wishes the best of luck at his new club.

“For a Dane, it’s about having respect for the club you play at. I am proud to be able to pull on my Liverpool jersey and will never go to another club in England. I would never go to Manchester United or Everton, for example. It’s about a form of respect for the club.

if what he says is true then i see no need to worry.

Rodgers has also confirmed Liverpool would have to receive an acceptable bid for defender Agger, who has been the subject of interest from Manchester City, before they would consider parting with the Denmark star.

"Daniel is a top player and you do not want to lose your best players," said Rodgers.

"He has been here seven years. He loves the club and its supporters.

"But every player has his price and we will see where it goes."

lets all just ignore this part eh?!? its positive and talks agger up but dosnt fit into the doom mongers negative outlook so we'll just pass it by.

its embarrassing sometimes hearing lfc fans taking small snippets of a conversation and making up a whole scenario based on basically **** all

What weaknesses has Agger got that would be so badly exposed in Rodger's system that he'd need to be shown the door in order to get a better defender in, yet apparently Skrtel would not be a problem?

Been thinking about this, and I couldn't really give a **** if we decided to sell any player. Or ****ing all of them. Our better players or not, this is a team that has been bilge for two or three years. We've taken a new direction with a new manager so **** it, if Agger wants to go, or Rodgers wants to sell him, so be it. Same for any of the squad. We're all just guessing ay how things might work out and getting worked up bases on our relatively ignorant positions. There really is no point. None of the players are blameless for the position we're in (except Borini I guess) and that includes Agger, so screw them.

not anywhere near the extent that the majority on here do.

"every player has a price" roughly translates to "FSG looking to sell us, FSG are skint, rodgers pissing over our tradition, rodgers a egomaniac ****, agger being forced out the door, lfc a selling club, lfc fighting relegation this year, looking to offload pepe and skrtel too" . . . . . its pretty pathetic IMO
