We are stuck with the legacy of what went before. Everybody wants the owners to spend £20m or more of their own cash. That is simply not going to happen. Does that make them bad owners? That depends on your point of view.
Well I think Rodgers rates Downing and I would be very confident of O'Neill paying £10m for Downing. They are perfectly reasonable fees - Downing 50% of the fee he went for 12 months ago, Adam the same fee but lower by virtue of him not being in the last 12 months of his contract as he was when we signed him, plus peanuts for Spearing.

Yes we are paying the price for last summer's cluster**** but selling one of the few world class players in a squad that is already weak makes no sense in my view.

If we *must* sell to raise funds, I would much rather sell:

      Downing for £10m (Sunderland, Villa)
      Adam: £7m
      Spearing: £3m

There's twenty million quid and none of those prices are unrealistic at all.

If you sell Agger, one of our best players, it significantly weakens not only the squad but the first team - and the squad then needs a damn sight more strengthening (the so-called reason for the sale) than it required in the first place. False economy.

That is the only point I am making. I don't think anybody is happy about it. Quite depressed across the board if anything.

It is the people who seem to want a magic wand / rich benefector solution that I am aiming my points at. Once you accept the reality of the situation, then it is a matter of prioritising who to sell and who to keep.

Am I right in saying that you would much rather sell Carroll for £20m than Agger for £25m? I know I would if that was a straight choice.
        Oh I don't know.

I'd take anything over 12 million for Carroll, Downing 10 million sounds about right & 8 million for Adam and Spearing would be fine.

IMO taking a hit on Carroll and getting rid or any players that could possibly go instead of Agger would be a win win situation.

For me whatever it takes to keep Daniel Agger at LFC, guy is world class and vital for us to move forward

We're either furious at an inept friendly display or buzzing at a great friendly display. All within the space of a week.

Can we find some middle ground please?
nobody says we're going to win the league, nor does anyone say we will finish in the top 4 but we could do it just like we could fall flat on our faces.

But, nobody wants to buy him at that price (well, nobody that he would consider going to as we found with West Ham). So he stays, for now.

I'm sure Rodgers was told the situation in simple terms during the interview process. There is a small budget - after that you need to sell to buy.

How about Skrtel. What could we get for him? We would rather keep Agger than Skrtel, given the painful choice.
                Oh I don't know.

Eccelston should be sold too, he's pretty poor. Might get up to million for him

Sounds pragmatic, but slightly humiliating to me. We all know that Carroll is worth much more than £12m, but much less than £35m. And we don't want to be seen as a soft touch in the market either.

It is a really tricky situation, and one that I really don't envy.

IMO he's is not worth more than 12 million, unfortunately that 35 million price tag was so laughably more than he's worth that you're right it does look humiliating for us and him

For me though, it doesn't seem that Roges has any interest in Carroll at all, if it's a case where Carroll is bench warming and on big wages & if it means keeping a vital cog to push LFC forward in Agger, for me it would be good luck Andy regardless of the hit we'd take.

Feel sorry for Carroll, but i suppose it's a ruthless business and sure he's done quite well out of it so my sympathy only goes so far.

I just wouldn't sell Agger no matter what, rolls royce CB's like him don't come along that often.

I am not aware of a better footballer we could sign to replace Agger, for less money. I can't believe anyone could say that selling a World Class CB who is passionate and committed to playing for the club, supports us and wants to stay is a good idea at all.

Its **** that we supporters are more concerned with the financial benefits of selling a player committed to the cause than the footballing benefits we have in keeping Agger. I'd feel the same way if Agger was punted to City as I did when Stevie G nearly went to Chelsea, in fact it is worse because Agger wants to stay, and has not had his head turned. You don't get rid of one of your own.

                          spot mate mate.

Must be a real kick in the balls for Agger being handed on a plate to City for the right price, you wouldn't blame him now if he said **** this and was off. But he's is a diamond, world class and actually wants to be here!! We should feel blessed & certainly not looking to off load him regardless of the finances.

I will be disgusted if we sell him, i don't care what price we get.

P.S. I bet if some one he manages to stay, he'll get injured and people will be like "well.. shoudl have sold him injury prone"

and after already losing Maxi, Kuyt and Bellamy it would also mean we don't have a Carling Cup team.
