If we can keep those players fit for the majority of the season then I don't think we are as far off as some people believe and 4th place shouldn't be some pipe dream.
I think some people are setting lower but realistic goals for us this season to avoid disappointment. The other sides around us are strengthening also but as you say, if we can keep the core fit & in form we'll go ok.

I think there will be a few initial teething problems.

It's purely speculation at the moment and it's hard to judge from friendly games, but I think there will be times when we will be left exposed as certain players push on and others don't know when to cover. I've also seen instances of pressing to the detriment to our shape and some players adapting to zonal marking.

We have a strong spine and players that can win games on their own, so I'm confident we'll compete near the top. However, I also think there will be games when mistakes cost us and there will be games when we struggle to break down a team set up to stifle us and we'll fall just short.

Obviously, we'll all be better placed to make a more informed judgement during the season, but it's just my initial thoughts. Or maybe it's because an eternal optimist and I'm fed-up of coming short, so I'm managing my own expectations this season.

Can understand people privately thinking that we might struggle but can't believe we have fallen so far in such a short period of time that posters are being pulled for thinking that top 4 might be achievable.

Until mathematically impossible, I'll continue to argue that we can finish first, like every year.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Surely fear and loathing are the only authentically cool hand tattoos.

Jakes tattoo from the blues brothers is a very acceptable alternative.

I like to make the most of pre-season and convince myself anything is possible (even under Roy ). I'll soon be silenced no doubt though, but for now it's still on.

And this must always be the mantra of the club. The league title must be our target, our obsession, every single year. No doubt we will get put down and told to be realistic though.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Apparently The Times reported tonight that MCFC is unwilling to match Liverpool 27m valuation on Agger.

Hopefully this is the end of it.

15 million for Rodwell was quite cheap I thought .. perhaps they think fair play will actually matter after all ....

"He is a good player," said Mancini.

"He is young and this is the first time he is at a club that plays to win. It will be different for him.
