yea totally - the chelsea game really demonstrated that.

When the centre backs split and Gerrard drops into the middle of them it's going to be a lot harder for us this seasin IMO cause the opposition will try and negate that.

Chelsea did that very well last season in that they sat deep but pushed Ba high onto Gerrard to try and force a mistake. The wide Chelsea players cut out the ball to the two full backs who had pushed high.

In that instance - neither Sakho nor Skrtyl pushed into the space into midfield with the ball to try and force the Chelsea team to press the ball and therefore create space.

Cant remember which subsequent game it was, but Agger came on and that dynamic completely changed, he was carrying the ball into the space well in the oppositions half.

I'll try and find the MNF clip that shows it on video

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has reportedly agreed personal terms with Spanish giants Barcelona. The Dane has been perenially linked with the Catalan club in years gone by and now looks set to finally be making the move to Spain.

Agger made 20 Premier League appearances last season for Liverpool, scoring twice as the Anfield club finished second in the Premier League.

The centre-back’s place was far from secure, with Agger fighting it out with Mamadou Sakho for a place alongside Martin Skrtel in the Liverpool back four. Dejan Lovren‘s £20 million move from Southampton to Liverpool, combined with Sakho’s improvement in form at the end of the season, means that Agger would face increased competition if he stayed at Anfield, prompting his move to the Nou Camp.

Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri has tweeted that the 29-year-old has agreed personal terms with Barcelona, ahead of a move that has previously been reported as being worth around £12 million.

Not withstanding the possibility that this could actually be true - we could all make an educated guess, isn't Palmeri renown for posting bollocks?

Marca seem to have decided that Boateng will be going to Barca - no mention of Agger:

Jerome Boateng, the Bayern Munich defender, has become Barcelona's number one target. Although Jeremy Mathieu arrived a couple of weeks ago, the 'Azulgranas' still want to strengthen the centre of their defence with another player, and the German player has become the top mark to fill this vacancy, in a development that was first uncovered by Radio Marca.

The German, who recently won the World Cup with his national side, has been valued by his club at €39 million. Aged 25, he's equally at home playing in the centre of defence and as a full-back, something that suits Barcelona down to the ground, as he could also cover the position occupied by Dani Alves out on the right.

The difficulties in signing Thiago Silva and Marquinhos have resulted in the Spanish heavyweights continuing to comb the market for a centre-back that's up to the job, and it seems that Boateng has all the attributes required for him to become the next 'Culé' signing.

Real Madrid have also thrown their hat in for the German, although it isn't known if this is out of a genuine interest or if it is an attempt to inflate his price. This latest development has forced Barcelona's director of football, Andoni Zubizarreta, to move the meeting with the player to sooner than originally planned, meaning he could sign this evening
