Nonsense. Firstly that is a completely subjective judgement, which when you consider how poor our defence was last year is hardly backed up by the evidence. Secondly you are completely ignoring the fact that his body is simply incapable of standing up to the rigours of premiership football any more. Agger may be amazing in your mind, based on who he was as a player years ago, but in reality things are very different these days and as a discussion it is just completely futile, not "relevant" at all imo.I could not dig, I dared not rob:

He is fragile. Unfortunately he's not a Fabergé Egg so his value was dropping and he couldn't be trusted.Originally posted by -V- View Postbump
I was thinking about Agger today. Do you know he's still only 30 year old?
Where did it go wrong? How did he go from being one of the best defenders in the Premier league and being chased by Man City for big money to suddenly moving back to Brondby? I still don't understand
That elbow on Torres will live long in memory...Was muß, das muß.

Even with his injury issues I'd rather have Agger for 20 games per season than Lovren and Skrtel for 50 each.
Selling Agger for £3m and buying Lovren for £20m.

Doubt if Agger would have managed close to 20 games a season in England tbh. He seems to be barely able to manage close to that in the Danish league.
Selling Agger was not a problem, but not bringing in proper quality that summer was.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

He averaged 28 games per season here in 8.5 years. That includes four games in 05/06 when he joined us in the January window, and six games in 07/08 where he had that ****ty foot injury.Originally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostDoubt if Agger would have managed close to 20 games a season in England tbh. There's also a number of games where he was fit, available and not selected.
I'm not saying that you can build your defence around him as we all know he's injury-prone and clearly last season he struggled in Denmark too, but I think we dropped a bit of a bollock in letting him go.

I'm just going by his own comments at the time when he said that he was not physically able for playing in England anymore.
Once a player is being that honest about things then I have no issue with them being moved on.
I also don't think that even if he was able to play 20 games for us last season that it would have made an awful lot of difference as many of our defensive issues last season did not stem from the LCB position and we would have seen a physically struggling Agger having to try and cope with an even greater workload.
Loved him as a player for us and he comes across as a real stand up guy, but am kind of glad he was not around for last season as I would have hated to have seen him struggling amidst some of the utter shyte we served up.
Our problem at the back is the same now, in my opinion, as it was when Agger was with us. And that problem is that our best CB is a LCB who to date seems a tad injury prone. Take the LCB out and the back four does not look as good.
What we need is a RCB of pretty high quality who looks amazing when our LCB (Sakho) is available, but who can marshall the back line when a stand in LCB is being used.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

if he could have stayed fit then he would still be here.
If he could stay fit he'd be the best CB in the league...unfortunately he's made of glass.
The crime wasn't letting him go - replacing him with Lovren was!
We've had some terrible luck with injuries/illness in our defence when you think about it though.
Rob Jones could've been something very special but had massive injury problems.
Markus Babbell before his illness was absolutely incredible.
Fabio Aurelio - Had the potential to be one of the best LB's in the league but just couldn't stay fit.
Could even add Heggem to the list, he looked like a solid RB before injuries took their toll.

sure i read an article that while he had fitness issues, I don't think he got on well with Rodgers and even when fit wasn't used.
I am sure if we had a different manager he would have stayed thats how i read it anyway._____________________________________

and if he had stayed he'd have been injured, whilst he is a very good player the fact is he was always injured, if i'm correct he played approx. 130 games in seven seasons for us a shocking recordOriginally posted by red g View Postsure i read an article that while he had fitness issues, I don't think he got on well with Rodgers and even when fit wasn't used.
