Pacheco faces Anfield exit after missed opportunity

    By Ian Herbert

Liverpool are ready to reduce their wage bill in January with Daniel Pacheco, the 19-year-old Spaniard considered one of the Barcelona academy's rising stars when he signed three years ago, among those manager Roy Hodgson may be prepared to lose.

The failure to maintain academy players' development between 16 and 19 has been a recurrent theme at Liverpool in recent years and Pacheco has remained inconsistent. There is considerable interest in him from Spain – including Malaga and Espanyol – and Hodgson has made it clear that the striker missed a major opportunity to impress in Liverpool's Carling Cup defeat to Northampton Town in September. Hodgson said: "He featured in that unfortunate Northampton game and it's a fact of life that it was a great opportunity for those outside the first 13 or 14 to really show me, 'You should be thinking of me'."

There is also uncertainty about the Anfield futures of defender Daniel Agger, whose calf injury continues to worry medical staff, and Ryan Babel, who claimed bizarrely on Twitter yesterday that assistant manager Sammy Lee had ordered him to stop practising during the Benitez era. Babel, whom Malaga are also tracking, wrote: "I wasn't allowed to train extra under our former manager, even when I wasn't involved. I even tried to train extra by doing it secretly, but the assistant manager came to tell me to stop."

Dr Peter Brukner, Liverpool's head of sports science, said Agger's injury, sustained by a kick to the calf on international duty, had caused calcification to a blood clot. The Dane could be a target for a Bundesliga club.

So on the same day we are mentioned (presumably erroneously) as being in for Samaras, this comes out

    Do **** off Hodgson.

pacheco is the new Richey Partridge, until he proves otherwise.

Sure he has skill but he hardly uses it to take games by the scruff of the neck.

          he goes missing too much.

          Not good enough I think.

Pacheco may fall a little short right now but for Roy to come out (again) and publicly discuss players like this is just ****ing beyond embarrassing and actually really ****ing annoying. JW and the rest of his mob are going to find it a very short honeymoon period unless they get rid of this abject ****.

                Missed opportunity eh.

It is just a shame that we played some kind of 8-1-1 tactic against Northampton and Pacheco was forced to play a defensive game the whole game.

                **** off Roy.

                    2. What would he fetch on the market right now? 8mil?

Exactly Dom, he's hardly been given a chance for the first team, yet people are ready to claim he's not good enough already? Yet again it's a case of some people moaning about lack of chances for young players, and when those chances do come if they don't set the world alight then they're instantly branded as not good enough.

When he got the odd cameo last season, I actually thought he looked quite good. Always wanting the ball, always looking for a quick pass (unfortunately the other players didn't seem to be on the same wavelength ).

If Roy forces Pacheco out of the club then it will be nothing short of a disgrace.

Aye Reece. Lets get shot of our brightest talents because they featured in a ****house game where the entire team was woeful. Schoolyard stuff.

Pacheco has underperformed in one game. Whats Hodger up to now on the inept, ****e, soullessness counter? By his logic should people not be asking whether he should be getting another chance?
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

be a shame really - has looked promising and not really given a fair crack...I was excited this season because despite all the off field ****e and lack of decent signings - we had four promising youngsters that might give us something to smile about - kelly, wilson, shelvey and pacheco...... - ok we have had a couple of injuries here and there and some shocking form which can't have helped but that northampton game was a cluster **** and not because of the youngters - he had pacheco playing right wing and wilson playing left back, both out of position....but worse - playing in team with jovanovic, spearing, brad jones, babel and who ever else deserved shooting that night........

I really do feel that if we gave the likes of shelvey, kelly(who is already showing he is up to it) and pacheco a proper chance...playing with gerrard, meireles, cole, reina and torres......well i think they'd be good.

just once - i'd like to see -

                              -------------------------reina--------------------------

                              kelly--------carra--------------agger----------aurelio

                              -------------gerrard------------meireles--------

                              cole-------------------shelvey---------------pacheco

                              -------------------------torres----------------

or something similar - at home against some of the ****e teams - players like shelvey and pacheco would be so fired up and excited to playing alongside torres and gerrard, that they won't want to let them down, and who knows - some of the other senior players might wake up a bit and think - wow we god a couple young kids here who are talented....i'm going to work even harder to help them
