I can't watch any more. This Australian team is aweful. None of them have any technical ability at all.

TBH, I knew nothing about the game till Shaggy mentioned it. Wish he hadn't.

I've not seen much of Pacheco, but seem to read a lot of positive things about him.

Surely there must be a reason three managers can't (or won't) find him a slot in the team? Surely this is highlighted more by Kenny, as he is not exactly shy of putting his trust in youngsters.

While it's true, it's also perhaps a little harsh to say that 3 managers can't or won't find room for him, Rafa was very conservative in terms of bringing young players through and Pacheco was only 18/19 in Rafa's last season. Hodgson believed that young players get you the sack, and in his time here and Rafa's last season the club was going though a difficult time and managers tend to avoid bringing young players into struggling sides. And no maanger is going to make space in their team for an 18-20 year old unless he's something special.

I think at least part of the problem last season (under Kenny) was that the team already had a few young and inexperienced players in it (Spearing, Kelly, Flanagan, Robinson etc) and you don't want to have too many (if you can avoid it) you need to get the balance right between youth and experience, combine this with the fact that there is alot of competition for that role 'second striker' role in the team: Gerrard, Suarez, Meireles, Kuyt and for the moment Aquilani could all play there, Pacheco is behind all of those in terms of experience and ability.

How Kenny rates him is also difficult to tell because Pacheco has had to miss part pre-season due to the U20's tournament, so he hasn't featured in too many games for us. Personally I think he needs a season on loan somewhere, he is still very inexperienced ~10 first team club games in his career and he's unlikely to get many games here this season due to competition for places and lack of games (through missing out on Europe).
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Yeah, it was kind of a loaded question - the point you make about the three managers is spot-on; different circumstances dictated his development - none more so than the age he joined. I guess the crux of my point really was to canvas opinion on him; I've never seen him play, bar the odd cameo appearance here and there and like you say, he's away with the U20's at the moment, and reading the above, he seemed to have put in a decent shift regardeless of the standard of opposition.

I just wonder if he will make it here, or do we take advantage of the high regard he has in Spain and cash in on him (I have no idea what fee would bring) or do we look to aid his development by getting him out on loan, preferably to Swansea, Norwich or QPR.

I wasn't really aware of his position neither, but when you list the players he has direct competition with, he has to take his chances when (or if) they arise.

Like you I haven't seen too much of him. He seems to impress at youth international level but not as much at club level. He's still very inexperienced so needs to go out on loan for experience - it's a shame that Norwich don't want him for a year as that would have been ideal. I think on the basis of his international tournaments a number of fans are thinking that he's better than he is, from what I've seen of him I don't think he's ready for our first team. But he's at the age where he wants games, so I think if we are to keep hold of him we need to get him a decent loan deal for the season. My gut feeling at the moment is that he will return to Spain in the next couple of years because he thinks he should be getting more opportunities than he is. (This is based more on interviews I've read than his performances or ability).

He does seem to spend every other week playing some age restricted international game.

The kid must play 20 times a year for his country one way or another. Could be affecting his opportunity to blend into the 1st team, while giving him a bit of a big head playing and dominating against teenagers.

You could well be right. I'd like to see him brought on off the bench for us for say 8 - 10 games and see how he does. He seems to play left of a 3 man strike force for Spain. We don't play that way ( 433) but could he play in the hole in a 4411 ? He's not a touch line hugging wide man so don't know where he'd fit into our side TBH

How good is he really? I've just been looking at his record at youth international level, he only made the progression to the U20's squad when he turned 20 and he has only made 1 appearence for Spain U21's. It seems like he is a good player when playing against players of his own age he did well in the U19's and Ok in the U20's. He never seems to have been picked ahead of his age range, so while he might excel when compared to the 19-20 year olds, he's never really been picked to play with the 21-23 year olds in the U21's (), is this because of a policy in Spain at U20/U21 level or is it because they don't think he's as good as the players a few years older? You would assume most of the players at 21-23 are playing regular first team football, so you would imagine a lack of football for Pacheco is hampering his development.
