    No thanks on Rafa.

Lest we all forget he made some infuriating decisions that caused these boards to go into meltdown after each poor result, even during the good times of 08-09 which everybody seems to forget. He had his time,He has too much baggage meaning he'll be starting the job with negativity from certain quarters from the start.

We need a new man, someone with new ideas, preferably a good style of football, someone who can get the fans and players behind him from day one and start moving us forward.

I fear this would not be the case with Rafa

Although I didn't want Rafa to go (I thought he deserved another season and a go with the new owners). I am now undecided as to whether it would be a good move to bring him back, there are obviously some positives, and there seems to be some overlap in the way Rafa and the owners seemingly want to work. But there are also other issues, working with a director of football and having less control than he had before, also any dressing room issues with players (who reportedly wanted rid of him).

Obviously there is the thought that Rafa had plans and he could pick up where he left off in that regard, and he would obviously be a huge improvement on Roy, I just wonder where our expectations should be if he were to return, would people give him less time than they would a "new" man because he knows the squad and would this be fair.

I have a huge amount of respect for him, but I do wonder how certain things would work out if he were to return.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

        I should imagine Rafa's team if he came back now would be;

        Pepe
Johnson - Carra - Agger - Fabio(PFK when Fabio isnt fit)
        Lucas - Meireles
        Kuyt - Gerrard - Cole
        Torres

IMO the 4231 would work well with that side, also with the added bonus of Rafa coming back we may just see a little more motivation coming out of Torres, he seemed really up for the Chelsea game for the first time in a while which shows all he needs is a bit of motivation and he should be banging them in again. The only issue is, the football still wont be pretty under Rafa, but it will be a damn site better than it is under squirrel.
The times they are a changin'.

That's the team we should be playing (when everyone is fit)

cant think of a left back,,, you must watch alot of football then!!!!!
coentrao, cissohko, tawio, lopez(atletico madrid) maxi perera, theres 4,,,,,

coentrao would best suit for age,
for the fact he has played in big games and knows raul and can play down the whole of the left side, as well as being used for left wing back too.... if we do not buy or try to get this guy, its just showing a lack of ambition, but then comolli and nesv have showed that already.

i called the show last week and brought up going for bigger names, and that mug barrett form the times made this satement "the champions league clubs will jump in before we do" how the hell does he know this, sometines yes liverpool will lose out, but not all the time, and if we all had his mentality then yes lfc should never bid for any of the top tier players..... just give up with the mentality of some lfc people who are at the club.

if we carry on, with this attitude then are finished.....

They, NESV, stated they will make LFC COMPETITIVE .... and that means Big Spending. It has to ..

There are different ways, once you are competitive, to loose the Prem. Goal difference, bad decisions from the Ref's, poor run of crucial injuries, suspensions to key players ... and so on. But if you are truely competitive it should not be because the squad is lacking compared to your rivals ...

The likes of the Mancs and Chelsea know full well they have the best squad .. Citeh will soon join them on that score and Arsenal will soon have the stadia paid off and that will release a lot of money to them. We simply have to match that under NESV or they will not be able to back up their 'promise' to be competitive.

We used to buy players that the rest of the league drooled over ... now be buy players who make us a laughing stock ... this has to be reversed. The 'so called' manager we have is a joke ... he has to go ... 'so called' player power MUST be eradicated ... and NESV have to act right now to achieve a short term goal to get 4th place in the league and do whatever it takes ... not sit back and write off this season ... at least try to get 4th and if you fail so be it ... be proactive and back up the 'winning' words as actions speak louder ...

And, next season or the season after, if we fail to win the Prem ... let it not be down to the fact that the squad was not good enough.

A cb, lb, winger & a striker needed to entertain the notion of a top 4 place. Another lb, cb, rb, cm, winger and striker for a title challange. New manager is a gimme.

So damn near 200 million then for the quick fix. What's really needed is ayoung manager with a good eye for talent and a new stadium built. It will most likely quell any notion of title challanges until we're self-sufficient with a 60,000 plus seater and champions league income.

Basically a ten year plan. At least it has direction though.

A lot of the squad we have came runners up in the league. We haven't lost that many players to suggest we need to spend £200m IMO. What we need our a couple of world class players, a few really good players and a couple of okay type squad players to plug the gaps. Positions would depend on what formation the new manager would go with.
                    Forwards.......

Probably still over 100 mil. World Class players are more than 20 mil these days. A really good player you are looking at nearly 20 mil and decent squaddies are about 10 mil.

I agree with danny, people speak of a 'major overhaul' but i think it's vast exaggeration.

As for 'world class' players - i'm not sure. The obvious best players in the world are your Messis, Ronaldos, Iniestas, Xavis etc - and these would obviously cost stupid money, but we dont actually need players of THAT ability to vastly improve.

Forgetting the notion of whether City would sell or not, but players of the quality of Adam Johnson would improve us massively, and he's obviously not in the bracket of a Messi or Iniesta.

We could sign players who may not be 'world class like Messi', but would be brilliant for us. And you CAN get such players for anywhere between £10m and £20m. Not necessarily needing to break transfer records, to sign them.

The hard part is identifying them, of course. But i think calls of needing to spend £100m+ are a bit wide of the mark.

Reckon it'd take an investment of about £80m net to get us back in the top 4 myself (excluding the sacking Bodge/hiring a manager who knew his arse from his elbow cost).
                          3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Do we not need players that are better than what we have, but would complement the skills that we already have.

Adam Johnson is a great example, a player that is very good and brings to the table the ability to stay on the wing and take players on, which none of the players in the squad currently does.

I do think we need an improvment in quality in some areas the main ones for me are in defence. The major difference since 2008/9 season is that we have leaked goals. Arbeloa's and Hyypia's departure coupled with Aurelio and Agger's injury record and Johnson/Carra's poor form have meant we arent as strong at the back despite decent players being there, also Alonso's tackling record was superb. I think if there is an area we need to invest in it is there, part of that can be improved with Agger and Aurelio playing consistently, but we need a new player to step up to the plate at CB. While Soto has done well, Carra and Skrtel between them have had too many uncertain games, we all feel that Konchesky isnt up to the mark.

Last season we had the 3rd best defence in the league, our issue was we didn't score enough, partly down Torres's being injured and Gerrard being poor.

That is true, I felt though that it was a form/injury issue in an attacking sense especially in terms of Torres and Gerrard, whilst errors cost us at the back (you could put this down to poor form I guess as well)
