And whilst I have many times stressed that this is not going to happen (even under Roy), I couldn't be arsed on this occasion.

In fact, regardless of Roy, I suspect we'll still end up finishing between 6-8.

But sue me, I'd like a shot at fourth place. I think we have good enough players for it, especially if we buy a couple in January.
    Forwards.......

Marsh reckons there's a risk about ending up with someone who'd do worse. For some reason, he seems to completely ignore the possibility that said person could also do better and may, like you suggest, even give us half a shot at top 4.

I would love to be in 4th or higher. I agree Roy wont get us there. i would think at very best 6th but closer to 10th.

I saw nothing from sami at bolton that said he would do better.

If i said replace him with Paul Ince would you say yes? again saw nothing at blackburn that said he would do better.

We need to replace Roy (i dont think anyone apart from that bloke who got through to the phone in the other night would disagree) but i would like to think we should replace him with something better.

not sure why this is a strange opinion to have.

Bringing in Sami who has a worse record than Roy just doesnt make any sense. we have to pay Roy off and then have someone worse. I dont see why that is more sensible that at worst having to wait till the end of the season to replace roy with someone good.
I'm not going to go on and on with this. And don't think I'm saying we should put Sammy in charge.

But I think he'd do a better job at LFC than he did Bolton. There he lacked players who would pass and move. He should have played it clever, and introduced a passing game more slowly, like Coyle.

That said, I don't want him. But there are any number of people out there we could ask. Thompson, Dalglish, Jol, Rijkaard. Six month deal, big bonus if they get us 4th place.

ok i thought you were saying get Sami in for six months.

Thompson - not sure he would do any better not at all convinced as a manager.
Dalglish - i have said that again not sure why he or us will gain from it.
Jol - i can see the logic in him
Rijkaard - again i can see the logic in him

I would have thought if you were going after jol or rijkaard and for them to accept then it would be full time. not sure either would accept a till the end of the season when we will get who we want type of offer. ITs possible if we would consider them at the end of it but again it just doesnt quite add up.

I would love say hiddink to come for 6 months and do what he did for the chavs, i would accept him and then we get either that Dortmund bloke or the Porto one in the summer. Its just i dont think the names that get mentioned would do that. We know Hiddink wont do it, Rijkaard yes please though.

Well there will be no written contract with any new manager at this time.

Anyone who comes in, I think it's clear the job would be available full time to them IF they did do an exceptional job. It's kind of like assistants who get the caretaker role. We are looking elsewhere, so it's up to you to make it impossible for us to not employ you on a permanent basis.

Absolutely. There is really no reason any longer to keep Roy. He will not take us forward and we may as well part ways now.

Any of those mentioned, primarily Rijkaard, imo would have the potential to turn things around for the next half of the season especially if we do get few decent signings in January.

Get him on the rolling contract and if things don't work out cut ties in the summer.

Not really a risky venture but it can pay off big and in a hurry.
