Gerrard was awesome yesterday but we always looked like we could concede at any time.

Stevie should play off Torres as second striker to make the most of his pace, power and eye for goals/assists. Personally I would bring back Aquiliani to challenge Meireles for the second midfield spot.

Why is Barcelona so great? The reason is that their central midfield more or less never give away the ball, that means very few counter attacks against them.

The central midfield play a safety first high ball possession game. It's only in the final third that they allow the players to make high risk passes.

Keep the ball and the opposition will in the end get tired and make mistakes.

I agree with you, the problem with Stevie is he wants to be on the ball all of the time. He is an amazing player and maybe with the right wide men it could work with him in the middle but with no natural width his ability to spray the ball around is nullified, thats just a maybe though.

What we do know is that playing off Nando we almost won the league, thats a fact.

Personally I would have him in a free role out on the right swapping wings with Maxi/Kuyt. In the current squad that is.

And anyway, I would rather we try to score more than we let in, rather than trying to let in fewer than we score! I vote for more high risk. Better than watching a team of Ray Wilkins clones.

Arn needs to change the record, it's humming.

Its funny how a few **** home performances can send the fans away but during H and G we couldn't beg to get people to miss games

I wonder how many tickets were available in our end, it seemed that there were alot of empty seats in the Bolton section which would have affected the attendance figures. Also with it being new years day how many season ticket holders couldn't make it because of difficulty travelling, or being too hung over.

I don't think the Wolves performance would have stopped people going as the majority would have already bought tickets before then anyway. I guess poor performances have resulted in less tickets being sold, but there are IMO a number of other factors that need to be considered, as to why the attendance was so low.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think the PL has a minimum stipulation of 3000 tickets for away fans so I would estimate there were 8-9 thousand absent Liverpool fans.

                  It doesnt.

Depends on the ground capacity, among other things. We often have a smaller allocation than 3000, and often it gets cut due to persistent standing.

I know it's not always enforced but I believe that's what it's supposed to be.

Unless you can tell me different I have no knowledge of Bolton's allocation being cut so I think my estimate would be about right.

If it's not enforced, then the PL clearly doesnt have a 'minimum stipulation of 3000 tickets for away fans'

It's regularly 'not enfoced'. As i said, depends on various factors, including ground size. I think we barely got 1800 for Blackpool, for example.

Manchester United supporters 'will ignore' ticket limit at the Stadium of Light

By Ian Ladyman Last updated at 1:08 AM on 20th April 2010

Manchester United supporters are planning to infiltrate the home fans at Sunderland in two weeks after the North East club cut their ticket allocation by almost half.

Just days after crowd trouble marred United's 1-0 win at neighbours Manchester City on Saturday, another serious security issue has come to light in the Barclays Premier League.

League rules stipulate that away clubs must receive a minimum of 3,000 tickets for all matches

Well fair enough with that, but i struggle to consider anything to be a 'rule' or 'limit' when it is so frequently ignored.

Sunderland cut the allocation due to standing - well, we've never played Blackpool - so why was our allocation only 1800 approx? It wasnt 'cut' to that, that was just the allocation.

Where's the 'rule' there then? Regardless of what the Mail says, i know for a fact and from experience, that we do not get 3000 tickets for each away game.

Craig I don't disagree that what generally transpires in practice is far removed from the rules.

I've been to away games where clearly the allocation isn't 3000 tickets.

However it always seems at Anfield that we allow up to the maximum (or somewhere near it) so on that basis (and taking in to account the number of empty away fan seats) I made my estimate of the total number of absent LFC fans.

the new year's day thing happens every time we are at home on new year's day though. so something else was at play here. people were voting with their feet.

I dont think your estimation was wrong. And yes we do allocate upto the 3k, sometimes then reducing it when they send half their allocation back, and selling them to home fans instead.

I think it was a combination of things yesterday, **** form, New Year's day, fed up with roy, cost (8 games in january) etc. But even allowing for all that, a shortage of 8k-9k of LFC fans is a big void.
