I don't buy this. There is no real evidence of a lack of fitness in the squad and it comes across as a pretty desperate excuse.

So i'm not sure the argument holds water, for those four. What do you expect to get for £1.5m these days?
I expect us to sign better players than that. I meant that a player like G Johnson is ok but not value for the money 20 mill or what was it?

Degen and Jova was free transfers BUT they are terrible!

Anyway, you run much more when you haven't got possession so if anything our fitness levels should have reached an all-time high under Hodgson.
        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I don't think that holds sorry. You run much more trying to get the ball back (harassing and harrying) than sit and try to hold your shape and react to situations. If you hold a higher line, you've got to run back and constantly try to win the ball back, therefore you run more.

There were definite signs on Wednesday that players couldn't sustain those levels of pressing of the first half, therefore we lost our shape & concentration and they started cutting through us in the second half.
          Are we winning?

And most of the team playing against Blackpool played most of the game with 10 men v Man Utd. The "fresh legs" were disastrous.

Don't involve me in your serious arguments about football. I was just having a go at Bodger.

Under Hodgson, there definitely wasn't enough hounding.

The more I watch Liverpool this season, the more I worry. I didn't think a major overhaul was required but the players seem intent on proving me wrong.

Poor...No pace at all...Only Kelly and Torres seems to have pace to burn, the rest are really slow and most have a very poor first touch...We seem pedestrian at times..

The club should have done everything to keep a hold of Xabi :
Him and Gerrard in midfield was so good and I think was one of the biggest blows to our squad in recent times. Since then all the little things have just been adding up, and now we have one big problem and we have a load of crap/average players.
Is it even completely unrealistic to sign Xabi again? even a season or so down the line...

We've been like this for almost 18 months now, IMO, but I saw a distinct improvement in this yesterday, well in the first half at least, where there were players moving into space, creating space and demanding the ball.

That was a massive plus for me yesterday even if the start to the second half ruined all that good work in the first.

I was pleasently suprised by the pace Kelly showed. He absolutely burned Baines when he went down the right wing!!!!!!! He is going to make a cracking centre back because he has the big build for it and he is bloody fast!!!

Personally I think there are a few players who under normal circumstances would gradually get better as confidence came back but we are not under normal circumstances and they need more than a confidence boost. For me, in these circumstances, I think it would be good for both club and player to have a parting of the ways, players like Skrtel and Kuyt.

Can you imagine what we would be like if we still had Xabi alongside Mascha with Gerrard just ahead of them two behind Torres

I would have loved to have seen Xabi play with Johnson and Mascherano covering him. I generally think if we kept all those players we could have won it the next season with Johnson attacking from right back... shoulda coulda woulda...
