Spearing can play the sitting role. He's one of the few players in our squad who will actually ask for the ball and tell team mates where to pass the ball.

Watch him today, he'll always be pointing to his feet, demanding the ball and then telling players where to pass when they look unsure.

As a player I've only ever questioned his strength and ability on the ball.
    Forwards.......

Not really if we've changed manager. Jovanovic signed a deal this summer but looks like he's on the way out.

        I see us playing a 4 - 1 - 4 - 1 formation with Spearing sitting in front of the defence

          remember this:

We won the league, we won the cup,
          We've been to Europe too,
We played the Toffees for a laugh,
And left them feeling blue (5-0)

Well, I would have played Aurelio and left out Spearing - but I suspect Kenny thinks the plusses that come from having a local lad in the team outweigh the negatives of playing GloJo (a) in defence and (b) on the left.

              What would you have done?

As I said before, make sure you tune into Match of the day 2 tonight to see my hat trick against Everton.

Really surprised again with GJ as LB. What is the point of having Aurelio if he will not play when available?

Also playing with 2 DMs at home with Spearing in the first 11?

I think you can see two DMs as a way to allow Johnson and Kelly to get forward. We lack pace and mobility in defense so perhaps that is the reason that Spearing and Johnson have been given the nod.

It will be interesting to see how things go. It feels a lot like a preseason at the minute which is a bit difficult to take but perhaps necessary given the varying styles of Rafa, Roy and Kenny.

yeah and if a player is running his contract down and signs a new one means the club can force a transfer fee

Even if we win 4-0, it's still a completely mental decision to play an already hapless defender in his right position, in an unfamilar one.

Especially when Aurelio's fit to play.

I reckon the inclusion of Jay Spearing is related to the fact Mehreles is a big girls blouse hence he'll do all the dirty work and tackling for our very own Luis Figo.

I think it will be Spearing sitting with Lucas and Meireles ahead of him, taking in turns to support the attack.
