Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing has confirmed his agent is discussing a new contract with Director of Football Damien Comolli:
“My agent is speaking to Damien Comolli. Any time when the club comes to you and wants to talk to you about a new contract it’s an extra bonus for you to go out there and play well.”
Spearing has had a prominent role in central midfield since Kenny Dalglish took over as
    manager in January. LINK

I might be the only one but I'm not a fan of all these "joke" photos. It might be done with friendly intentions but it does serve to undermine him, turning him into a figure of fun - and he's better than that.

Yeah I think I would feel pretty guilty if I had made one up or been posting them all over the shop, I feel bad for the guy. I can't help but laugh my tits off when I see them though

well i'm still unsure - don't get me wrong - i've been completley proven wrong - i just never saw anything that made me think he'd be a success - and he's got a wee bit of of luck in the sense that, we've had injuries and the fact that poulsen is so ****....spearing got his chance, and he's worked hard and he's been better than i expected....but i'm not getting carried away with it.

I don't mean to put a dampner on it - i'm pleased he is working his socks off and has been 10x better than i expected...but i worry that we get a bit too carried away....

I still think we need a a quality centre mid - someone like M'vila/defour etc who we have been linked with - And then with a fit gerrard, mvila or someone like that, lucas, meireles - thats four what you'd call first teamers....

Which means both spearing and shelvey are going to be competiting/fighting it out for say 10-15 appearences (providing the other 4 stay reasonably fit, don't have any shocking loss of form)

So in that situation - to be honest, i'd keep spearing if knows thats the case....he's here to provide cover for those 4, and he will be used as and when - then great....I'd then look to see if we could give shelvey a good loan to a lower premier side

We have long needed decent youth/squad players that are willing to sit and wait for a chance to pull on the red shirt, and then the 10 games or so they get - they fight for the club for 90 mins....

But i do maintain....i'd still be a bit worried if we are thinking..."oh jay spearings doing well....we don't need another centre mid - we will be fine with gerrard, spearing, lucas and mierles....." - whilst not disastrious....it's not ideal either.

Well, i'm still very much undecided if he's good enough to be a squad player for a future liverpool that's challenging for titles.

Very much early days for me, for now all i can say is that he's shown something he had'nt before in recent games, whether that's the real Jay Spearing or a young lad riding the crest of a big Red wave i don't know, time will tell.

I can't quite explain it - but i'll try...when i saw Gerrard for the first time...it was like...wow he has to play every game - now i know it's unfair as gerrard is a superstar....but the same could be said with martin kelly which is probably a fairer comparsion - someone like kelly came in and instantly forced himself into the first team.....

Spearing i just feel unconvinced about - he's just a job do-er for about 10 games a season

Haven't the last few games changed your perception of him at all?

Some players need a run of games to show their worth and to be fair to the lad he is getting better and better. Now I'm not saying he's ever going to be a superstar but I think we're guilty of being overly critical of him.

He was very good (again) against Birmingham. I see no reason why he can't improve in a similar vein to Lucas, after all isn't he 22?

I'm sure he'd win a few more fans over if he chipped in with the odd goal or so a season

He's winning me round but I'm not there yet.

I will say I got him wrong though, I thought he was a League One/Championship player but he's playing above that level at the moment.

However it's still only, what, three or four games? Needs to maintain it almost week in week out.

I think my point is that, sooooo many players have played like superstars at certain points in their careers, and with Jay....it's too soon to say this is his consistent level.

He has been brilliant of late though.
