Chavs won the tittle last year with Mikel in the same role as Lucas. I think Lucas has shown this year he's more than good enough to play the DM role in a top side.

I think we'll be playing 3 in the centre for a lot of matches next year so think we could nearly do with bring in two new players to compete.Originally posted by PTP View Postlol - i knew somebody would pick up on that...what i was trying to indicate is that you'd normally play with two centre mids.....so for me in order it'd be
--------new centre mid------------gerrard----------
----------lucas-----------------meireles------------
-----------spearing----------------shelvey
More like that - so ie, the new centre mid gets injured, then...you'd play lucas and gerrard.....but if gerrard was injured...it'd be the new centre mid and then you'd choose between lucas or meireles depending on the game....ie, man utd away, hmmm you'd play lucas, but say QPR at home, i'd probably rather see Meireles. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Hopefully he'll get his first major taste of success in that role in the Copa America this year.Originally posted by banditos View PostChavs won the tittle last year with Mikel in the same role as Lucas. haha - now i'm confused....Originally posted by Rich View PostAh, so you're going with defensive on the left, attacking on the right.
Makes more sense.
basically...to sum....
Gerrard is world class super star
meireles i think is a good player technically - neat and tidy, can score/create goals but is a bit of a fanny - more attacking centre mid
lucas - i think is good player - consistent, great work rate, doesn't score goals though and is also a bit of a fanny. more defensive centre mid
Poulsen - total dog****
Spearing - works hard, but unconvinced
Shelvey - technically, looks a better 'footballer' than spearing, but is young and needs some game time
I have nothing against spearing or shelvey - both young, and can do a job - but neither a ready to be a major part of the first team - and poulsen is ****e....
which means for me we have
one top drawer centre mid,
two good centre mids......
two good youngsters.....
I'd like us to sign a VERY good centre mid as well
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

Agree, and i think he'll get even better, improving the parts of his game that need it, he seems that type of player to me, one that very much improves with age and experience, he has it in his game to be more offensive at times too, as seen in his time in Brazil, and i feel he can still add a little of that to his all round game over here, even in his dm role.Originally posted by banditos View PostChavs won the tittle last year with Mikel in the same role as Lucas. He's still quite young for his age too.

He deserves all the credit for the last few performances as he played better than most peeps would expect from him but in honesty the entire team is playing with a great deal of confidence atm.Originally posted by Vermilion View PostWell, i'm still very much undecided if he's good enough to be a squad player for a future liverpool that's challenging for titles.
Very much early days for me, for now all i can say is that he's shown something he had'nt before in recent games, whether that's the real Jay Spearing or a young lad riding the crest of a big Red wave i don't know, time will tell.
Jay will never be the regular starter but he may be good enough to stick around as a squad player.
We'll have to wait and see.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

He certainly isn't a fanny in DM, he is very strong and does a brilliant job at breaking up play.

Thank feck i ain't the only oneOriginally posted by Rich View PostI might be the only one but I'm not a fan of all these "joke" photos. It might be done with friendly intentions but it does serve to undermine him, turning him into a figure of fun - and he's better than that.
Kinda ripping the piece out of the lad a little bit now tbh, like one or two pics is fine but there's new ones cropping up everyday and it's non stop
Lets leave young Jay alone.

I'm really not sure he does - as you say he's still very young but from what i've seen from him to far he's not technically good at all, looks very clumsy and awkward on the ball.Originally posted by PTP View Posthaha - now i'm confused....

Spearing on the other hand, can control the ball and spray the passes around. Ok, he's not brilliant at it but i defo wouldn't say Shelvey is technically better than him.

Bloody hell Matt, you're not half defensive about Lucas.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostWelling he is not there to score.

I certainly didn't read that as a pointed criticism, more as a fact to be considered when comparing our midfield options.
I agree Lucas isn't a fanny, but I know where he's coming from. He doesn't get bullied, but he doesn't have that imposing presence either; something I think we're missing from our central defence and midfield, and should try to address this summer.Like blood on iron

I find it really premature people feel the need to start judging the kid after 4/5 games for us. He's gonna take time, but already he's impressed more than some foreigners and shown he's more than capable of playing for lfc.
I watched him a lot on lfc tv when he played and captained the reserves and U18's and he was phenomenal amongst his age group banging in goals for fun - and I see the comparison between him and Stevie G that the King remarked about recently.
I have faith in him and am sure he'll be a regular within a year or two.
Your too good to be true, can't take the ball off you you got a heavenly touch, you pass like Sounness to rush. And when we're pissed in the bars we thank the Lord that your ours
