I disagree. He is capable cover. But because Lucas is injured he gets seen and exposed more.

But to say he isnt very good is just not true. Bruno Cheroyu wasn't very good. Jay is decent. He will never set the world alight. But he will always provide a level that is fairly consistent.

Sorry mate, but I think he needs shipping out in the summer and he won't be anything but a championship player or a relegation team player.

Not really, look through old threads about his performance and you will see the same pattern, people are just desperate for him to succeed because he is local imo.

People liking local lads or English players really annoys you doesn't it? There doesn't have to be some paranoid reason you know. He's played well in games so gets complimented on it. It's nothing to do with where he's from. Same reason Insua got praised despite having bad games, same with Lucas and as far as I'm aware they weren't born locally.

Erm, nope, it doesn't, otherwise Gerrard would not be my favourite player, but nevermind. I also think Johnson and Kelly are very good and Carragher has been excellent for us.

The praise he does get is because he is a scouser, there is no-way fans would build him up like some do if he was from London let alone a foreigner brought in as a young player.

A 7/10 performance in a local derby doesn't change that. What he did provide however was more balance in the midfield allowing Gerrard to push on more but the credit for that goes to Kenny for selecting the team that way.

Jay can run around, shut the ball down and pass backwards and sideways, he isn't a bad footballer and I'd be happy for him to stay with us as a squad player but we need better than him to play with Lucas or instead of Lucas as first back up in that sitting/defensive type role if we are to get back in the top 4.

More paranoid nonsense, early Lucas, Insua and now Henderson were and are loved by plenty. And who really builds him up that much? I dont ever see anyone saying he should be a regular. Can you provide some links to who's doing this?

Ridiculous. How many people praising him are even Scouse and have an affinity for local lads. I certainly don’t and know a lot of others that rate him too that aren’t.

I certainly don't differentiate as to what part of the country he is from. I'm sure there is a tiny minority from Birkenhead who want him to do well by ignoring his talents. But that's about it. But to say he gets special praise because of where he comes from is rather too simple of a reason.

Spearing played well last night, he's not a starter for us long term but you need those players that will come in do and job and get on with it. We've not had enough of those over recent years.

Blatantly shouldn't be a regularly starter but he's a tidy passer and positionally pretty sound. Obvious he struggles in the air () and doesn't offer much going forward.

Last night he performed pretty well - did his job, allowed Gerrard to break forward and was helped by a poor Everton.
