I never read the ensuing argument, my immediate thoughts were that its not far off being right, and we'd maybe get at most £1.5m

He's really not very good. Its damning that he's anywhere near the first team.

Jay is all right player with great attitude but imo he is just not good enough. We need depth at each and every position and we can feature only so many mids so if an offer comes I'd thank him for his time and sell.

He'll never be a first team player but I would like our bench players to be good enough to genuinely challenge for starting job and he will never be able to do so.

agree with the shark. that someone's willing to pay is a bit of a surprise tbh.

Bearing in mind he'll be on good wages (compared to most championship players) I would think that £1.1m is realistic TBH.

I don't see the issue of him being 1.1m, it is about all he is worth.

hard to see us getting any more given his form at the end of last season finally confirming that he was being asked to play at a level he is not capable off. Seems like a good lad, but time for a change, and I doubt we will be inundated with offers.

At least he didn't cost us aything...

I'm with Matt on this one actually, surprised we haven't sold him already to be honest.

£1.5m and above would be good enough for me, get him off the wage bill, especially of we are keeping Aquilani

Why shouldn't the new manager give him a chance? Any way we might yet sell Aquilani.

I'd keep him if we flog Aquilani, don't think there is much point otherwise, just dont think he is quite good enough.

He had a breif period where he was very good but has looked out of his depth since.

Personally I think if he is not good enough then no point keeping him.

He cost us goals and points towards the end of the season. Time for a change.

                          1 million is fair.

It would be dangerous till start haggling with a team that offered £1 million for Spearing because we run the risk of that team suddenly coming to their senses and withdrawing the offer.

They all went for decent money, we should be looking for similar.
The problem with Spearing is that he's a tiny central midfielder that gets physically pushed around, and doesn't have anywhere near the technical ability to compensate for it. The players you mention are far less of a liability to a team than having somebody that is so easily marginalised in a key area of the pitch. As soon as Spearing leaves us he will disappear without trace.
