    Pacheco to Norwich on loan

LAMBERT POISED FOR DOUBLE LOAN SWOOP
Posted on: Wed 23 Mar 2011

CITY boss Paul Lambert is poised to make a double swoop for strikers Sam Vokes of Wolves and Liverpool's Dani Pacheco on emergency loan deals until the end of the season, subject to clearance being received from the relevant football authorities.

If the paperwork goes through the pair are set to come in to provide valuable competition for places up front, following injuries to City strikers Chris Martin and Aaron Wilbraham in recent weeks.

Both would arrive at Carrow Road following their involvement with their countries during the international break, with Vokes on duty with Wales and Pacheco away with Spain's Under-21 side in France.

City boss Paul Lambert said he would be delighted to secure the services of both players, saying: "The two of them were desperate to come and play and that was very important to me," he told canaries.co.uk exclusively. "The two of them are keen to come here and I'm sure if they join us it will give the whole squad a lift.

"Sam Vokes had a terrific time at Bournemouth at the start of his career and he's a threat and a presence around the box. He's a hard-working player and he would add to the mix of options we have up front.

"Dani Pacheco is a lad we've seen playing for Liverpool's first team this season and I've been talking to Kenny Dalglish about him for a few weeks now. He's technically very good as you'd expect having been with clubs like Barcelona and Liverpool and the fact he's away with Spain's Under-21s side at the moment speaks volumes for his ability and potential."

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Vokes, 21, joins the Canaries for his third outing on loan this season, having previously had spells at npower Championship rivals Bristol City and Sheffield United, scoring one goal in six appearances for the Blades.

Southampton born Vokes made his name with Bournemouth before securing his move to Wolves, scoring 16 goals in 38 appearances for the Cherries in just under two years on the south coast.

A senior Wales international, Vokes has scored twice in 16 senior appearances for his country and may be in line to feature against England alongside City colleague Andrew Crofts at the Millennium Stadium this Saturday.

Meanwhile, promising Liverpool striker Dani Pacheco, known as 'El Asesino' (The Assassin) in Spain, arrives boasting a terrific record at youth level both for his club and country.

Twenty-year-old Pacheco was instrumental in Spain's run to the final of the Under-19 Championship's last summer as the tournaments top scorer, scoring four goals including one against City's Declan Rudd in a 3-1 victory over England in the semi-finals.

On the fringes of the first team at Anfield, this is Pacheco's first loan spell away from Merseyside since arriving from Barcelona in 2007, having made four appearances in all competitions for the Reds this season, three as a substitute.

Pacheco is also set to play a part in Spain's Under-21s fixture with France this Thursday.

Both players come in to provide valuable extra firepower with Chris Martin and Aaron Wilbraham both battling back from injury, and will be available for selection for City's next encounter with Scunthorpe United on April 2.

Think Norwich are live on Sky in a few weeks so we'll get a chance to see him. Love to see him tear it up in that league.

They play good footie from what i've seen this season.

Paul Lambert is a highly rated manager too - Celtic fans i know expect him to return to Parkhead one day, as a manager this time obviously.

I'd say that's pretty clear; be a better footballer. He's not good enough and clearly Rafa, Roy and Kenny can see that hence no game time.

I find this strange delusion and obsession by football fans over younger players quite odd. If you are good enough then you'll play, pretty simple.

Used to make my laugh people saying "stick Babel up front and give him a chance." Some players are just not good enough and you should respect the manager for picking his team.
