Suarez has outperformed Rooney in the Prem in 2011 IMO. Fewer goals, but that's not the only barometer.

I think the fact Rooney's shinned overhead kick was one of the three goals of the year has influenced people.

Perhaps but people also consider how the teams that individuals played in performed. Suarez was nowhere near winning anything. Whilst it's not necessarily my criteria I think it would be reasonable to consider it.

He won Copa America with Uruguay and was The Best Player of the Tournament (ahead of Messi for that matter) and that should have been taken into consideration.
