Sounds like the clause is somewhere between £70m-£80m. Given the biting incident it's not a bad price. He's clearly better than Bale but he's also older. Ayre is no Levy, either

It's difficult to establish the prices being paid for players right now, the figures seem to be guesses rather than factual prices. However, if some of the figures being suggested for very average players are to be believed then £71m for Suarez is an absolute steal in spite of the dramatic baggage that goes with the player. I'd be asking for £100m+ and maybe expecting a bit less. Certainly at this stage of the window. We could spunk £71m on two or three underwhelming additions. If we're going to lose our best player then we need to be steadfast and stick to our valuation. I suspect the owners are really pissed off with Suarez and want rid, but he's far too good to relinquish cheaply.

If true I think its quite a reasonable price all things considered myself, certainly not a **** one. Its £30,999,999 more than anyone offered us last season. We can't simply value Suarez on talent alone as he does come with serious baggage / risk for the reasons you list. Would still easily be one of the biggest transfers of all time, with only Bale and Ronaldo costing more, both when several years younger and without the same issues.

I have to say I thought we would settle at anything above 60m, 71m if true ids the best we can expect because of his issues.
