Performed, scored, I was alluding to the same thing.Originally posted by James P View PostI didn't say performed, I said scored. Of his 31 goals 5 were against Norwich, 5 against Cardiff, and 2 against Fulham, the three relegated teams. Add on 3 against West Brom, and 2 against West Ham, Stoke, Sunderland and Palace, and that's 23 of 31 goals against teams nowhere near the top of the table (and I didn't even include Spurs in that) and often part of comfortable victories.
I'm not saying that 31 in 33 games isn't phenomenal, but the facts are that a third of those came against just two teams, and none against City, Chelsea or Arsenal (even in the 5-1 win).
I find it odd that you are using last years form as a stick to beat him with, especially as it was just a statistical anomaly IMO. If his previous form reflected this trend then maybe I would see your point, but in previous seasons he was just as likely to score against Chelsea or United than any other team, bar Norwich. IIRC in his first 18 months here, all his goals were single goals in different matches, bar 2 games (Norwich and West Ham I think), so the only difference I see is he added more goals to his game, just coincidentally fewer were against the big sides. And similar to what Shaggy said, if he went missing in these games, then there might be an argument to be had, but more often than not he was still the best player on the park.
The thing is, I actually agree with your point that some people play down how good Torres was for us in his prime as he was phenomenal. But equally, I think you are doing the exact same thing here with Suarez and clutching at straws to prove your point. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

2 completely different types of player.Originally posted by rcasemore View PostThat's probably the best way to put it goalscorer vs footballer
IMO, if somebody offered us Suarez in exchange for Torres in his peak, we'd have told them to f*ck off, Torres was perfect for us in that system, playing on the shoulder of the last defender. Equally, there is no way we'd swap Suarez last year for a peak Torres, he'd have been nowhere near as effective in Rodgers system. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Definitely the best player I've seen in the flesh.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostI meant best player I've ever seen in the flesh, best player I've ever seen at Anfield etc.
It was an absolute privilege to see him at Anfield. The one goal that sticks in my mind was the free kick against Zenit in the Europa League. I was right behind that and the bend on that ball was outrageous.

I don't want him to go either Gibbo. We don't have to sell him but I think the club are not taking any chances now. He's fantastic but he is 1 more transgression away from a long ban. We can't afford to take the chance of him doing something stupid again.
I still don't want him to go but I can see where the clubs coming from.

Was a great night that, atmosphere was epic. Shame we couldnt quite turn it around but he loved it all. Annoying he's ****ing off to play for them cunts who dont even make any noise in CL semi's apart from when they're asking for penalties and red cards.Originally posted by Leyton388 View PostDefinitely the best player I've seen in the flesh.

He won't be the main man at Barca that's for sure. However with Naymar now ****ed he will get his chance as the main striker. I think he will be brilliant in La liga as apart from a couple of teams the rest of it is crap and he'll run riot.
He'll run Messi and Ronaldo close for World player of the year IMO.
