I was not really paying much attention to our defence at the time given that we had Barnes, Aldo, Beardo and Rushie destroying things at the other end. But from what I can recall, Glen Hysen was not that bad. He certainly was no Piechnik or Kvarme.

That's true. Though he was also no Hansen or Lawrenson, sadly.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

makes his "i am a piechnik or a kvarme" neck tattoo look incredibly silly.

for what it's worth, i've said this all season.....my major worry is not suarez himself, but the club - i think if there is £40m offer on the table, the club will take it.
I have to say that I have the same worries regardless of Ayre's recent comment that he expects Luis to be with us next season.

We almost sold Agger last year despite Agger's clear unwillingness to leave and I'm not so sure that we won't put Suarez in shopping window without him necessarily asking for the move.

Yes, I can. Until I've seen Suarez operate at this level for several years for LFC, which isn't likely unless we get CL, he is still behind Dalglish, Gerrard, Barnes, Rush, Souness, Keegan, Hughes and probably a few more in terms of consistency and overall contribution. Don't get me wrong, he's a great player, but he's not operated consistently at the level that all of those hit for us yet.

My point about Beardsley is simple. If he only makes number 44 for giving us a couple of outstanding years, the suggestion that Suarez jumps straight in at number 1 on the basis of what we've seen so far is daft. I'd be delighted if in four or five years he's given me no option but to change my view.

Putting Suarez straight in at number one is a bit like the Radio 1 polls for best ever song, where nothing more than about two years old gets in the top ten. People did play football quite well before 2012, you know.

Luis Suarez has claimed that his words were "twisted" following reports surfacing on Wednesday suggesting that he was considering a Liverpool exit.
Suarez, 26, has often said in the past that he is happy at the Premier League club, despite the lack of Champions League football on offer at Anfield.
The Uruguay international, though, was quoted in Thursday's Liverpool Echo, from an original interview given in Uruguay, as saying: "If another team comes around with more prospects of competing in international club competition games, which is willing to have me, they are welcome."
However, the Reds striker has since moved to set the record straight, stating that the quotes had been manipulated from the interview given in his homeland.
"I'm sad to read these things," Suarez was quoted as telling Uruguayan radio by the Times. "When it's in England, I accept it but I do not expect my words to be twisted over here [Uruguay]."
Suarez's comments follow those of Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre, who said on Wednesday that he believed the reports to have been mistranslated.
"You can read into the comments - it was given in his native language so I think maybe it was a bit lost in translation,'' he told BBC Radio Five Live.
Suarez, the leading goalscorer in the Premier League this season with 22 goals, signed a new four-year deal with Liverpool last August.

It's all part of my unique charm.

I'd heartily recommend watching the '501 Goals' and 'Official History' DVDs if you haven't already, as they illustrate just how many truly great players have played for us over the years. They'll also depress you greatly when you think about where we are now, unfortunately.
