It might be unrealistic and therefore moot, but I just wish that Suarez would give us another season so we know our chances of pushing on are high. Obviously, there are no guarantees in football (or anything in life), and him staying doesn't mean we'll do any better next season. The likelihood, however, is quite high, as opposed to the almost certain stagnation we will encounter if he leaves. I understand that he is in the prime of his career and that it would be much more cushy and nice living in Spain, competing for top honours with a team like Real Madrid, but isn't there just as much honour in helping a former great back to its best? Honestly, I ask myself that sometimes: if all of these footballers were retired and I were reading about their careers, I would respect the ones who stayed with an "average" team in spite of their world-class talent and helped it go on to achieve bigger and better things more than the ones who ****ed off to "better" teams and perhaps achieved success, but were less important to their team in the process.

Yes, I'm aware, there are holes in this logic. It just doesn't hold up, given the way football works and how players/agents/etc think. And obviously I have a deep personal bias, but I never lived during Liverpool's greatest years and I still think it's one of the biggest clubs on the planet. If Real Madrid comes in and tables a bid, offers Suarez higher wages and a starting berth in a title-challenging, Champions League-competing team, then for all intents and purposes, he will go. But there is so much more than material value for him in staying at Liverpool. I can't be objective, but I think I would think this regardless of my sporting loyalties (unless I were a Madrid fan... a Madridista *gag*), if I were him and I were lying on my death bed, I would be a lot more content with having stayed at Liverpool in the 2013/14 season and helping them qualify for the Champions League again than going to a money-flushed, cuntish Spanish team before I had the chance.

Again there is obviously nothing guaranteeing that we would qualify for the Champions League even if he stayed sooo this argument is probably incoherent but whatever! I just wanted to get it off my chest.
That's by no means a fact, Marina. We have forever (recent history) been a team reliant on one or two star players and it's clear to me that BR has made great strides to get us away from that tag. Without Luis in the side we've coped well and haven't struggled to score. He scores such a high percentage of the goals in games he plays because he is so focused on getting in to a goal scoring position but this can have a negative affect on the team when he's eased out of the game.

      Without Suarez 2012/13 W 5 D 0 L 1 Win percentage 83%

Let's say for a moment that our squad is valued at £240m, that means Suarez is the equivalent of 1/6th of the value of the entire squad. Anyone in finance would say that our exposure is too high and then we'd need to spread our stock more evenly. I'm almost certain that the club has weighed up the risk and decided that should he wish to go then they wont stand in his way. Provided BR gets all the money on top of his transfer pot then I think we can strengthen the squad in many places and give ourselves a better chance to improve.

Having said that, I know what you mean that if our star players had the commitment that Stevie has showed that we'd have seen Torres and Suarez playing together and could now be looking forward to CL football. Sadly though, the players don't look at it this way. Their careers end when they stop playing and they're not really bothered about legacies

Still....they're big boys, and well able to be responsible for what comes out of their mouth.

We should probably still sacrifice him to our god to be on the safe side.

I suppose you're right. I'm still conditioned to being sort of hysterical and expecting only bad things to happen when it comes to Liverpool

                  Aye.

We don't sell unless we get what we think is his fair value.

My concerns are about what we will do with the money as we've been incredibly poor in trying to replace top players over last few years.

I don't know anything about Dimao but Soldado looks really good and Sturridge can lead the line very effectively like he did at Bolton.

We wont get a penny over £40m which still represents a fair profit and will do wonders for Brendan's rebuild program.

I love Luis but Suarez has become a circus that maybe we could do without.

Suárez has a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave in the event of a club making a substantial offer - Tony Barrett

We should let Rodgers sign the players he want and build the squad to fit his tactics and playing style.

Kenny spent a lot of money on players like Carroll, Downing and Henderson but FSG simply must continue to back the manager and let him build the squad.

If the owners don't trust him enough then sack him and get in a manager they trust to build the squad.

They simply must trust the manager.

If Rodgers want to sign a 28 year old player for £30m and we can afford it then FSG should do all they can to sign him.

If the manager fails then you replace him but you have given him a fair chance.

We the fans could accept that Kenny got sacked because he got a fair chance.
