The answer is probably that he wanted the players to learn to live with that pressure. It may not have paid off the first or second year but by telling the players that they can win the title then the players learn to live week in week out with that pressure.
That is the only way doing it. The players must believe every week that we can win the title. The players must feel that extra pressure and learn to enjoy it instead of it being something negative.
It worked for Rafa until the the key players had to be sold and not replaced. Then the squad was simply not good enough.
The players believed that we could win against any team out there, home and away. The players believed that we could win the title. They had started to learn to live with and enjoy the pressure.
It takes time to learn a squad to do that.

from now on I will skip talking about our finances. That is a promise and will save myself from looking like a
