Has the referee actually said he saw Suárez bite Ivanović?
    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Ian, everyone is still talking about Sunday's incident with Luis Suarez. What is the latest on the situation?

I think the most important thing is that we acted swiftly yesterday. Luis issued his apology and then we spoke with him last night and then again this morning. We've taken action to fine Luis for his actions. Brendan has spoken to him and I've spoken to him, and Brendan will be working with him further on his discipline. You can see when you speak to him how sorry he is about it and he's certainly shown quite a lot of contrition to us - and as part of that, he's also asked we donate the fine to the Hillsborough Family Support Group. I think he felt like he let a lot of people down yesterday. We'll work with Luis - Brendan particularly - on this side of his character in his game. Hopefully that puts the matter to rest from our point of view and we'll wait and see if there's any further action from the football authorities.

Have you had any contact with the owners regarding this situation?

Yes, of course. With any incident like this, any major incident at the club, we're in direct dialogue with the owners, always. I spoke to them last night and they were happy with the way we were handling the matter.

Will the events of the last 24 hours have any bearing on Luis's future at Liverpool Football Club?
Not at all. It affects his future in the sense that we have to work with him on his discipline - but Luis is a very important player to the club. He's a very popular player with his teammates. As we keep saying, he signed a new four-year contract last summer and we'd all love to see him here throughout that contract. He's a fantastic player, top scorer and everything we'd want in a striker, so there's no change there. This is more about getting him back on the right track and it's largely down to Brendan now to work with him on that side of his character.
Finally someone talking sense on the issue

I think I've answered this above

Lack of punsihment on the pitch leaves him open to disciplinary sanctions from retrospective viewing

Like it or not thats the way the FA work

Its wrong imo, even yellow card decisions should be encompassed by retrospective action

Lec, I think re. the booking etc, a few are quoting the Thatcher v Mendes incident as back-up to allow the FA to charge Suarez
          Suarez will be charged

I've no doubt about that, and so he should be

Personally think he needs a ban though. He looks pretty knackered and they need to go away and sort out his issues. Biting like that is pretty disgusting. Love the guy but just needs to sort his head out. He's no good to us banned

I've not seen a comment from him

Still would be hard to explain seeing that and not giving out a punishment

I think he needs a ban for the same reasons but frankly I'm not sure that will stop him from misbehaving again

Hes a great player but hes an incredibly flawed character

I think you're right. A flawed genius. At least Ivanovic didn't over-react though I guess and has made no big deal about it. Credit to him for that

2/2 ...to the Hillsborough Family Support Group for the inconvenience I have created to the Liverpool fans and to Ivanovic.
I hope his offer of a donation is above and beyond what the club has fined him, as it's not his place to dictate what the club should do

Ajax banned him for two games, Dutch FA added five on. Or the other way around. I'm not really that arsed. He could have run in to a burning building and saved a baby's life and the press would still find some way to use it against him. With the fuss they're making you'd have thought he'd have shot someone bin just wounded it wasn't Torres he tried to get a chunk out of.

If I was sad enough I'd make a note of all the journo's hammering him right now and check what ones welcome the "great character and eye gouger" Jose Mourinho back in the summer and hail it as "brilliant for the league".

It was Kevin "hasn't got a single" Friend. No doubt he'd say he didn't see it even if he did.

I posted same thing on Lineker thing posted earlier but when I clicked post it said I had to register.

It's spot on though, unless he's being banned for life then why shouldn't he be able to play on at Anfield !
