Madrid started at £35m. They'll only go higher.
Rome wasn't built in a day, but it wasn't built by the apprentice either.

Where has Barrett said that? I assume it's in tomorrow's Times? It's not on Twitter.
      Are we winning?

Luis Suárez says he would find it hard to turn down Real Madrid

Luis Suárez has thrown his Liverpool future into yet more doubt by confirming that he would find it hard to turn down an offer from Real Madrid and blaming “unfair” treatment by the English media for making him unsettled.

In a development that has seemed inevitable since he received a ten-game ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic, the Chelsea defender, Suárez told Sport 890, the Uruguayan radio station, that he is open to the idea of leaving Liverpool despite professing his love for the club.

“There is nothing [no offer] in particular,” Suárez said. “[But] it will always be difficult to say no to Real Madrid. I love Liverpool, but if there is any chance of playing in another club, [I will consider it]. I have suffered a lot since I was a child to reach this status as a player not to be criticised by some English journalists in an unfair way because of my personal attitude and not as a player.”

Real’s interest in the forward has mounted in recent days amid suggestions that Florentino Pérez, the president, wants Suárez to be their marquee signing this summer. Liverpool maintain that the 26-year-old is not for sale, but they are aware that it could be difficult to keep him if he decides to seek a new challenge.

Suárez has a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave in the event of a club making a substantial offer, believed to be in excess of £40 million, but even such an asking price is unlikely to dissuade Real from pursuing the Uruguay striker.

Liverpool have contingency plans in place should Suárez’s departure become inevitable. To that end, they have agreed a £7.7 million deal to sign Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo with the forward due to arrive on Merseyside next week to have a medical.

Whether Aspas turns out to be a replacement for Suárez or a team-mate remains to be seen, but the content of the former Ajax player’s radio interview will not raise hopes that the pair will play together.

Pepe Reina, the goalkeeper, has also indicated that he will be tempted to leave Liverpool if Barcelona make him an offer, with the Spanish champions ready to make a move for their former player.

“Barcelona is a great club and it is difficult to say no to a club like Barcelona,” Reina, 30, said. “It would be difficult leave Liverpool.”

My thought is that a release clause should be well above a players value to dissuade people from making the move.

He is worth £40m easily so a release clause of that is dumb. Should be having nearer £60m

Because we are ****ing stupid. Any properly run club would put a £60m clause in his contract but not LFC.

LFC: hmmm we value Luis at £40m so logically his buyout should be £40m.

Firstly, we don't know if there is a clause.

Secondly, Suarez would've negotiated it, the club wouldn't have put it there jst for the **** of it.

If Luis did negotiate it then Lfc should not have agreed as it is too low. He is our prized asset and should only leave if a club is willing too spend stupid money. Do you think the likes of united, city ect would sell him for such a low amount if he played for them?

Newcastle valued and sold Carroll for £35 and Rooney is rumoured to be valued the same so to suggest Luis is only worth £5m more is an absolute joke.

But he was already under contract, presumably without a clause, and the club have agreed for it to go in. They could have been a bit more stern and offered lower wages for a lower release clause. More wages for a bigger release clause.
