Well, I'm just glad we have a new Director of Communications to help control this story and put the club's best interests and narrative front and center. LFC really bossing it.

Gutted if this is true, I honestly thought that he'd still be with us next season. Maybe I was just dreaming and now I've got to get back to reality.
Again if true he's not done LFC any favours in terms of sale value as now Madrid can and definitely will take advantage of the fact he wants away.

Yeah, someone else will come along - I guess we'll be debating how good Coutinho and Suarez could have been together now rather than Suarez and Torres.Originally posted by marcus50bucks View PostI don't think it weakens us at all. I'm pretty sure Torres asked to leave yet we still got £50m for him.
Tevez kicked off and wanted to leave City - he changed his mind. He might come round yet. I'd imagine its all very raw for him whilst he's banned. A quiet summer of no football might calm it down for him. Let's see. Nobody might come in for him!

In some ways it will certainly be a relief to not have the circus that surrounds him next year but I'm pretty certain we will be a weaker team for it if he goes.

Great post.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostI don't think he's said or done a great deal wrong. I'm gonna be pretty disheartened if he winds up being a hate figure with the fans, like Torres.
One of the elite players in the world - who 100% deserves to be playing at the highest level, something we can't provide - is wanted by one of the top two clubs in the world and he wants to go there. It's not new.
We seem to make up these arbitrary boundaries for players who've left, with randomly different criterion for each one. Making it up as we go along ffs. Alonso is mainly a hero, Mascherano's a cunt, Torres is a cunt. Surely Suarez ain't gonna be seen as a cunt too? They all did (or Suarez is about to do) essentially the same thing. We're becoming a right bunch of quilts.
There was a time when I could count on one or two fingers the number of ex players who'd get booed coming back to Anfield. The list now seems to get longer every year.
With every world class Spanish or South American there's always the risk they'll want to go to Barca or Real at some point. It was obvious this is how it would end for Suarez at LFC when I saw just how good he was. I hope he stays but if he goes we ought to get huge wedge for him and off he'll go. I'll always love him as a footballer. Amazing player....been thrilling watching him play for us.
It's all just a ****ing game. To me it's clear he wants to go because he wants to play for Real Madrid and contend for titles and the CL every year, and this "the media hate me" line - while clearly overblown if you look at that Uruguayan lad's interpretation - is just a cover in the belief it'll make it easier for us to swallow.....rather than saying "LFC are a bit ****e and I'm way better than this so I need to go", which is essentially where I think he's at. Understandably.
I just look at that reception he got off the Ajax fans after leaving them in almost identical circumstances (bigger club come calling after bite incident) - I'd love for us to give him similar receptions if ever we met again. He deserves it. Been a ****ing incredible player for us, a genius and a warrior. A rare treat.
Save that post on your computer mate. You may wanna edit that and repost it in another 1-2 years when Coutinho agitates for a move.
Unless we get our act together and regularly compete for the later stages of the CL we are going to have this issue on a regular basis. If we do that then we will automatically find that liverpool players will have less issues with the paparazzi, press, english weather, taxes, kids growing up in their home country etc. etc. etc.

What about the cultural differences/affinities when everything else is relatively equal?Originally posted by peekay View Post

I am not saying that no one will leave. That is why I said they will have less issues not no issues. Ronaldo left Man U for Real Madrid. With Latin players Madrid/Barcelona are going to be the dream team.Originally posted by Nigey View PostWhat about the cultural differences/affinities when everything else is relatively equal?
However I believe if we compete at the higher level these incidents will be far less and rare.

Have the media twisted what he said because this was posted on rawk last night and was translated by a Uruguayan
Full audio of the press conference:
http://www.seleccionuruguayadefutbol...rencia-de.html
Some notes:
- he states that the papparazzi have been chasing his daughter and wife into the kindergarten
- he repeatedly states that he loves the city of Liverpool, the club, and the fans
- the "no one defended me" quote is about journalists, not the club or fans
- he hasn't decided to move abroad, but if harassment of his family continues, then he knows what to choose
- there is nothing discussed with Real Madrid or other clubs
- Suarez was annoyed with Uruguayan media for constantly asking him about this rather than the games against France and Venezuela (it was clear that our media wants him in Spain)
- he doesn't exactly think highly of David Cameron, and says that the PM has better things to do
- he never thought that he could win the Player of the Year awards, with the UK media so against him. Even so, some players (here he mentions Gerrard) decided to openly back him
- he says, several times, that the Ivanovic incident was his **** up
