Suarez was laughing and joking with his team-mates around the plush hotel in which Liverpool are staying, never giving the impression that he was unhappy to be in Australia.
On the training pitch at the AAMI Stadium on the banks of the Yarra River, that impression was reinforced. In a five-a-side game that was based on possession, when he was on a team with Steven Gerrard, Jose Enrique, Glen Johnson and Stewart Downing, he buzzed around, relentlessly demanding the ball and clapping enthusiastically whenever rapid passing moves came off.
When things moved on to a larger pitch, Suarez was even more animated.
He rattled Martin Skrtel with one tackle, shook Simon Mignolet’s hand after he had outfoxed the new keeper with a shot and then glowered at Oussama Assaidi when the winger failed to give him another chance to score.
This was not a player who was going through the motions and, despite being three weeks behind his colleagues in terms of fitness work, Suarez kept scurrying and scampering until Rodgers brought the 90-minute session to a halt.
When the final whistle blew, he dropped to the floor after giving his all. ‘It has been good to see him back,’ said Rodgers. ‘I have been looking forward to seeing him.’
And some really think he wont give his all if he stays?! He doesnt know any other way.
