Would love to see our attackers start the season in stonking form, so good that Suarez gets to sit on the bench when his ban ends.

Luis Suárez and Brendan Rodgers set for Liverpool showdown
Tony Barrett
Published 1 minute ago
Luis Suárez is set to hold urgent talks with Brendan Rodgers in the next 24 hours after another day of claim and counter-claim about the forward’s future.
Suárez is due to return to Merseyside today after playing in Uruguay’s 4-2 win over Japan in Miyagi and he will immediately begin discussions with the Liverpool manager.
Top of the agenda will be comments attributed to Suárez that emerged in Uruguay yesterday, in which he was reported to have said that he is willing to remain at Liverpool. “For now, due to all of the people’s affection [for me], I will be staying,” the 26-year-old said according to El Observador, the Uruguayan newspaper.
Suárez’s camp, though, dispute that he made the comments and Liverpool are yet to receive any indication from the Uruguay forward that he is ready to shelve plans to quit.
“I didn’t say that, maybe someone else did. The main thing is that I am here with the national team,” Kyodo News, a Japanese agency, later quoted Suárez as saying. With the situation becoming increasingly complex, Rodgers feels the need to ascertain exactly what Suárez’s position is and whether he is in the right frame of mind to return to training after being ordered to train alone.
Key to the talks will be Suárez’s relationship with his manager, which has deteriorated sharply as a result of the acrimony stemming from the former Ajax player agitating for a transfer.
Rodgers wants Suárez to apologise for his behaviour before he is willing to reintegrate him into the Liverpool squad. Suárez, though, maintains that there is no reason to show any contrition and is not prepared to retract his claim that Rodgers promised him he could leave in the event of Liverpool failing to qualify for the Champions League and a rival club making an offer in excess of £40 million for his services.
With Suárez apparently unwilling to back down, the impasse could continue unless Rodgers decides to judge him on his commitment and attitude rather than making an apology the decisive factor.
There is a growing realisation in the Suárez camp that remaining at Liverpool is the most likely outcome, particularly after the intervention of John W. Henry, the club’s principal owner, who made it clear last week that he will not countenance a transfer.
Since then, there has been a softening in Suárez’s attitude that has coincided with Arsenal considering alternative transfer targets — two developments that have increased Liverpool’s confidence that they will be able to prevent their top scorer of last season from leaving.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Willian is down to Rodgers’s vision of the Anzhi Makhachkala winger operating in an attacking quartet featuring Suárez, Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge. There is no suggestion that the Brazil player would replace Suárez.
Anzhi are understood to be seeking a fee in excess of £30 million for Willian, who is also attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur, but Liverpool are yet to be put off by the financial requirements of completing such an ambitious deal.
At this stage, Liverpool have made only an inquiry but there is no need as yet for them to make a formal offer for the 25-year-old as Anzhi have allowed Willian to try to set up a move, having made their entire first-team squad available for transfer as the Russian club attempt to cut costs dramatically.
Liverpool have been heartened by the emergence of a recent interview in which Willian revealed that he “would jump at the chance to play for them”. They also hope that if they are able to sign the former Shakhtar Donetsk player, it would help to convince Suárez of their ambition.
Ian Ayre, Liverpool’s managing director, was involved in negotiations with Granada yesterday to try to strike a deal for Guilherme Siqueira, the Brazilian. The clubs are yet to agree on a valuation for the left back but talks will continue.

Come back to me in six weeks! Rodgers refuses to answer questions about Suarez until striker returns from suspension
Brendan Rodgers is refusing to answer any more questions about Luis Suarez but insists that Liverpool have not wavered in their determination to keep the Uruguay striker.
Rodgers attempted to draw a line under the Suarez issue, claiming that the constant speculation over his future is disrespectful to his teammates as they prepare to kick off the new season at home to Stoke on Saturday.
But he warned that the club’s stance in turning down a £40million offer from Arsenal and refusing to consider selling Suarez has not changed at all.
‘So much has been written said about Luis over the last few months,’ said Rodgers. ‘From our perspective there has been a standpoint within the club about where it’s at and that hasn’t changed.
"What I want to concentrate on is the players who are available for this weekend.
‘I won’t be speaking anymore about Luis Suarez until he’s available because the players who have been working ever so hard, the focus and concentration over the course of these last few months for this game, out of respect for them I don’t want to answer any more on Luis Suarez.
‘There’s nothing to be said that hasn’t already been said. I’m sure people are fed up listening and reading about it.
‘My only concentration is the players who are available. They’ve worked tirelessly and purely out of respect for them and the work that has gone on, I only want to talk about them.’
