Compared to tv revenues and season ticket sales, merchandise from signing 2 Chinese or Japanese female players for our women's team would be barely noticeable.

If you think signing oriental female players would sell us an extra million pieces of merchandise, then fair enough. It wouldnt though

I don't really care that they do that because I just wait a few years and smile knowing that I had right.

If I sold humble pies then I would be rich now Feel free to laugh at me but remember what I said and look again in a few years time.

I think if we signed an Asian player (male) it would impact on our merchandising sales

              No doubt about that

To what degree its impossible to guess, lots of factors work against us in the Far East market though

So although some things are good ideas in theory, in the "real world" they dont often pan out as you dreamed

Absolutely. Arn's suggesting ploughing £10m into our women's team though and signing a few WOMEN asian players, as if that would have a serious impact - which it wouldnt.

If we sign a top class Asian player then it would impact our merchandise a lot. Look at Park at Man U. If you buy a fake shirt with Park at the back then you would be seen as not being serious enough when it comes down to supporting the club. More and more fans buy the real thing because of that.

In a few years time in fact a few days time I will most likely have forgotten mate

And if I don't forget, I will bump this thread in 10 years time and laugh at you even more

You are talking bollocks about fake shirts

Sorry Arn but you are and thats FACT

My brother travels the Far East extensively at least a couple of times a year (Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, China)

He says the number of fake shirts is astronomic (including Park / United ones)

My brother reckons at least 70-80% of the shirts worn over there are fakes

Even when he goes in the bars to watch LFC and talks to "Asian fans" he says the vast bulk of them still wear fake shirts

Now dont get me wrong I think signing an Asian player would benefit us commercially but I think the Far Eastern market as a merchandising "gold mine" is way too often over-exaggerated

I think the biggest money maker from the Asian market, would be if we were ever allowed to sell our tv rights independently. Us and the red mancs would ****ing clean up then.

                              Bingo!

I will say this though China is becoming more prosperous and there is a potential upside in that market (I know from experience in this)

They have far more disposable income than they did say 5 years ago

So that market could show some growth but I'd still be cautious as to exactly how many units can be shifted in terms of shirts etc.. over there

I'd guess most of the estimates will be on the high side of reality

You would be shocked at the quality of some of the fake shirts produced in the far east (IIRC in particular Thailand). The copies are so damn good - you can't tell them apart. The only giveaways tend to be the actual carboard labels/barcodes that come with the tops. So who is going "to be seen" as not being a serious supporter if the copies are so good. Just watch the video's uploaded of Liverpool arriving in China yesterday - some little **** is wearing a fake Alonso top
