16-year old Jordon Ibe scored the only goal of the game as the U-18s won 1-0 against Blackburn away. His first goal for Liverpool.

              Pompey pleased for Magri

Portsmouth manager Michael Appleton admits the club will not stand in Sam Magri's way if the teenager impresses during a trial at Liverpool.

The Reds consider the 17-year-old to be worth a look and will take the opportunity over the course of the next week to weigh up his potential value.

The promising defender will be offered the chance to train with the Premier League outfit and turn out for their academy side in a meeting with Everton on Friday.

Should he catch the eye of the Reds' coaching staff, there is every chance they will attempt to make his stay at Anfield a permanent one.

Magri has never pushed for a move away from Fratton Park, but Pompey concede it would be wrong of them to close such an illustrious door were it to open in front of him.

For that reason, Appleton has made it clear that the youngster heads to Merseyside with the club's full blessing and with their best wishes.

"Sam is going to go to Liverpool for a week to train with them and let them have a look at him," he told The News.

              Opportunity
"His agent rang me on Friday night and asked if there was a possibility and I said 'yes'.

"I was quite happy. I don't want to step in and stop somebody having an opportunity like that.

"Whether anything comes of it, who knows, but it is a good opportunity for him.

"You want to keep your younger players around, but when a club like Liverpool come in you have to look at it.

"At the end of the day, though, we won't be letting him go without it being worthwhile to the football club as well.

"I don't want to stand in the way of a lad having an opportunity of joining a Premier League club."

                                Sterling earns mini-derby draw

Raheem Sterling fired an equaliser as Liverpool Reserves came from behind to claim a deserved point as they drew 1-1 with Everton in the mini-derby at the Kirkby Academy on Tuesday afternoon.

The Blues, under the command of Alan Stubbs, fielded a strong XI with Seamus Coleman and Magaye Gueye in their side.

They also fielded former captain David Weir, who is doing some coaching at Goodison Park.

Jon Flanagan and Jack Robinson both played the full 90 minutes as Rodolfo Borrell fielded a youthful side, in front of the watching Kenny Dalglish, Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Robbie Fowler.
