What was it on Wolves part when we hit the post & bar?

As for last ditch defending - that doesnt mean we didnt defend the situations well.

How many saves did Reina need to make, or how many genuine chances did they create?

I wonder, if we'd been 3-1 up when they were pumping high balls into the box, would so many people still be saying that we were **** defensively? I think not. The tension and nervousness at being just one goal away from dropping points, is what's making people criticise our defending.

What's not good enough about that?
The fact that it didn't go in and after that they came back straight at us and kept the ball nicely for ages.

Everyone understands that you dont score from every chance you create but we have got to create more for starters.

Strikers keep missing, hitting the bar all the time. Apart from the two chances that hit the post, I cannot recall any clear cut chances we created after that

In which case, since we cant buy anyone now, might be better to just get over it and stop bleating on about Skrtel until January.

Well I thought Carroll looked far better. Some of his lay-offs were great and his work rate was good - he linked up with Suarez well at times. He was unlucky not to score and the fact that he was trying to find the absolute perfect shooting opportunity right at the end shows that he is probably short on confidence. He should be pleased with his performance though. I think we gelled far better as a team and Enrique again showed his class: thank you Clichy for pissing off to City!

I thought we played well overall and should have scored more. If we were a bit more clinical we would have though.

The second half would probably have been different with some better substitutions - and this is starting to worry me a bit. I'm confident that Kenny is the man, but it was obvious that Wolves were gonna push up second half and we should have exploited this. Bellamy should have come on for Henderson early in the second half so we could not ony use his energy to harry them but also utilise his pace on the break. Equally, Adam looked dead on his feet after about 60 mins and was leaving lots of space in behind. Gerrard would surely have been a better bet than him at that stage - even if he just sat in with Lucas as he did against United last season - but he would still have had opportunities to push forward more effectively than a severely jaded Adam.

I don't like to see a player have a hissy fit but you can kinda understand Suarez' point of view - he looked the most likely to create/score at that point.

Also the defensive line is a bit worrying. We drop so deep at times and then don't push up at all. If Carragher is the organiser, is this down to him? Or is it instruction from Clarke - how deep did Chelsea defend when he was there (genuine question)? I kept thinking back to Rafa and you would always see him telling the defence to push up from the sidelines. This is something that needs sorting quickly as it gives the opposition too much space in midfield and United in particular will punish us over this, even with that ball of lard Anderson in the middle.

Overall though a good performance. I think that we are starting to look good at times and this augurs well for the rest of the season. Onwards and upwards!

I also tought Kelly hasn't had a good game today. Got beaten few times by Jarvis and didn't offer much offensively and also when he is under any type of pressure he seems to resort to Carra's type of hoofing a lot.
Yeah kelly wasn't great today, but i have no worries about him, just rusty at the moment. Carra and Skrtel at the back against the mancs is asking for trouble.

I suppose January additions will depend on how we are doing at that juncture.

In which case he can actually start playing better than he has been and start making rational decisions when defending.

anyway, how fresh did Gerrard look? he hasn't run that freely for a couple of seasons. be brilliant in a few weeks if capello doesn't call him up.

Downing one on one with the goalkeeper (I think that was after Carroll hit the post) and Carroll sloppy dribbling in the injury time where he should have at least had a strike out of it.

he can't though, what you see is what you get. he's rash and liable to concede a foul at any moment, but he is the best we have available.

Ah i see. Good idea. Maybe Kenny should ask him to stop deliberately making mistakes, and try to play better.

Because when he has a poor game, he's obviously doing it on purpose.

As I said apart from the two chances that hit the post( one was AndyC's and the other Downing's) we haven't created any clear cut chances until the final minute

Wonder will Kenny start Stevie at Everton? He looked excellent when he came on but obviously being extremely cautious with him, and rightly so.

He has a poor game because he goes on a rampage and starts fouling and taking players from behind when things arent going his way.

Pretty easy to sort it out.

Are you seriously saying he is doing it deliberately?
